Publication number: 20170267392Abstract: A container including a finish defining an opening at a first end of the container that provides access to an internal volume defined by the container. A base portion of the container includes a diaphragm that is concave relative to an exterior of the container. The diaphragm extends from a standing surface of the container to a center push-up portion of the base portion. The standing surface is at a second end of the container opposite to the first end. The diagram is configured to move from an as-blown first configuration to a second configuration in which the diaphragm is closer to the first end as compared to the first configuration in order to reduce residual vacuum within the container. The diaphragm is generally hemispherical in cross-section when in the second configuration.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2015Publication date: September 21, 2017Inventors: Mark WOLOSZYK, Omkar DOLE, David DOWNING, Kirk Edward MAKI, Bradley S. Patent number: 9216537Abstract: An apparatus and method for simultaneously forming and filling a plastic container is provided. A mold having a mold cavity defines an internal surface and is adapted to accept a preform. A pressure source is operable to draw liquid through the inlet and urge it into the preform. A blow nozzle may be adapted to receive the liquid from the pressure source and transfer the liquid at high pressure into the preform thereby urging the preform to expand toward the internal surface of the mold cavity and create a resultant container. A pressure compensation system can exert a clamping force on the mold in response to the pressure source. The liquid remains within the container as an end product.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2012Date of Patent: December 22, 2015Assignee: Discma AGInventors: Brad Wilson, Kirk Edward Maki, George David Lisch

Patent number: 9044887Abstract: A method of forming a plastic container from a preform. The method comprises injecting a forming liquid into the preform at a predetermined system pressure range, a predetermined flow rate, and a predetermined duration sufficient to create a pressure spike at a peak pressure. The peak pressure being greater than the system pressure to urge the preform into the mold cavity, thus creating enhanced container definition, reduced post mold shrinkage, lower residual material stresses, and/or an improved transfer of the mold geometry and engraving to the final formed container.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2012Date of Patent: June 2, 2015Assignee: DISCMA AGInventors: Robert A. Cooper, Theodore F. Eberle, G. David Lisch, Kirk Edward Maki
