In one aspect, the present invention relates to a novel crystalline polymorph of retigabine designated as crystalline Form I, characterized by XRPD having characteristic peaks at about 4.87, 5.04, 7.03, 9.74, 10.02, 11.6, 18.03, 19.9 and 28.5±0.2 degrees two-theta, which is substantially same as depicted in FIG. 1.
