    Abstract: An ornament (1; 11; 21) for a jewellery system, which ornament (1; 11; 21) comprises a base portion (2; 22) that is provided with at least one notch (3; 23a, 23) for receiving an elongate element, and ornamental element (4; 14; 24a, 24b) that can be mounted on the base portion in such a manner that it extends across the notch and thus encloses the elongate element. The base portion (2; 22) and the ornamental element (4; 14; 24a, 24b) are configured such that the ornamental element (4; 14; 24a, 24b) can, in a releasable manner, be mounted on the base portion (2; 22) with any randomly selected orientation relative to the notch (3; 23a, 23b). Additionally, a jewellery system that comprises an elongate element and at least one ornament (1; 11; 21) as described above.
