  • Patent number: 11061258
Abstract: A mold for a plastic lens that arranges an insert member inside a cavity formed between a pair of halved molds, injects and fills molten raw material resin to mold a plastic lens having a predetermined shape, integrally with the insert member. The insert member is arranged on a molding surface on one of the halved molds, a notch to be engaged with a positioning tab formed at a periphery of the insert member is engraved on one parting surface of the halved mold, overlapping with a gate position. Positioning of the insert member is performed by engaging the positioning tab with the notch. With this configuration, in molding a plastic lens having an insert member by injection molding including insert molding, positioning of the insert member is performed at the gate position without deteriorating the quality of a molded product and without increasing the load of post-processing after molding.

  • Patent number: 7332110
Abstract: An annular insert (4) is arranged in the optical component molding cavity of a mold to surround an outer periphery of raw material resin in a direction in which the resin is distributed in the cavity to limit the distribution of the raw material resin and define an outer profile of a lens (L). With this arrangement, it is only necessary to provide raw material resin only by a quantity equal to the volume of the region surrounded by the molding surfaces of upper and lower mold inserts (14, 24) and the inner peripheral edge of the annular insert (4) of the mold, so that the required volume of the raw material resin can be reduced. Since the pressure is preserved at the outer periphery of the distributed resin by the presence of the annular insert (4), the residual strain of the resin is minimized to prevent generation of sink mark, thereby providing excellent optical characteristics on the lens (L).

  • Patent number: 6499986
Abstract: A plastic trial lens having a grip portion gripped when the lens is set in trial frames for trial lenses, an injection molded product for making the trial lenses, and a mold assembly for molding the injection molded product are provided. In the injection molded product molded by means of the mold assembly in an injection compression molding machine, a grip portion and a liquid guided and collected area are molded simultaneously with a lens portion on a periphery of the lens portion. When the injection molded product is dipped into hard coat liquid, the hard coat liquid is guided in the liquid guided and collected area to drip down and the remaining liquid without dripping down is collected in the liquid guided and collected area, thereby forming a coating film of uniform thickness on the lens portion. The plastic trial lens which is integrally provided with the grip portion is finished after the liquid guided and collected area is removed.

  • Patent number: RE38617
Abstract: A cavity 22 in an injection molding assembly includes a lower mold insert 21 for shaping a lens convex surface and an upper mold insert 20 for shaping a lens concave surface. When the heated injection molding assembly is cooled and a lens is ejected after a molten resin is pressurized by the upper mold insert 20, the temperature of the lower mold insert 21 is lowered below the temperature of the upper mold insert 20, which prevents the molded lens from bending at a central portion and enable high transfer precision of insert shapes.
