Patent number: 6328982Abstract: A cool feeling composition having an excellent cool feeling is obtained by blending at least one cool feeling agent selected from the group consisting of l-menthol, l-isopulegol, 3-(l-menthoxy)propane-1,2-diol and p-menthane-3,8-diol with vanillyl butyl ether. In this cool feeling composition, vanillyl butyl ether is preferably used in an amount, on the weight basis, {fraction (1/1000)} to 2 times as much as l-menthol, or {fraction (1/1000)} to ½time as much as l-isopulegol, 3-(l-menthoxy)propane-1,2-diol and p-menthane-3,8-diol. The cool feeling composition is capable of imparting a long-lasting and strong cool feeling when used in cosmetics, toiletries, cataplasms, bath agents, pharmaceutical compositions, etc.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 1999Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: Takasago International CorporationInventors: Kenichiro Shiroyama, Kiyohito Sawano, Hideaki Ohta

Patent number: 5626852Abstract: Described is a fragrancing composition having fragrancing components that are not activated until, e.g., application to the skin of a human. The composition is alkaline or (if anhydrous) capable of producing an alkaline pH when in contact with water, prior to application, and includes (1) a vehicle such that when the composition is in contact with water, prior to application, the composition is at an alkaline pH; and (2) at least one potential fragrance that is at least one compound having little or no odor in the alkaline composition but which, e.g., is hydrolyzed in a lower pH environment to produce compounds having a relatively strong aroma. Upon application of the alkaline composition to the skin surface, the strong buffering capacity of the skin (the surface of which has a normal pH of 5.5-7.0) neutralizes alkalinity of the composition (lowers pH) so as to restore normal skin surface pH; the potential fragrance is then hydrolyzed at the lower pH to release the compound having relatively strong aroma.Type: GrantFiled: December 23, 1994Date of Patent: May 6, 1997Assignees: The Mennen Company, Takasago International CorporationInventors: Robert Suffis, Morton L. Barr, Kenya Ishida, Kiyohito Sawano, Augustinus G. van Loveren, Tetsuo Nakatsu, Carter B. Green, Gary A. Reitz, Raphael K. L. Kang, Toshiya Sato, deceased
