  • Patent number: 5085006
Abstract: A weather strip to be attached to a flange formed along a door opening or a door frame of a motor vehicle, having a trim portion, a sealing portion formed on an outer surface of the trim portion, and two flange retaining lips projecting from each of opposed inner surfaces of the trim portion inwardly for holding the flange. A notch is defined longitudinally in a root portion of one flange retaining lip projecting from adjacent and open end of one of the opposed inner surfaces, which is on the opposite side of the trim portion from the sealing portion. When the weather strip is attached to a thicker flange, the one flange retaining lip is ripped off along the notch.

  • Patent number: 4986947
Abstract: A method for connecting ends of a weather strip made of a rubber material and composed of a base portion and a tubular sealing portion having two chambers which are separated by a rib, includes the steps of inserting each of both ends of a core, which have such a cross-sectional shape as to fill an outward chamber of the two chambers of the tubular sealing portion and press the rib on the base portion, into the outward chamber of each of the ends of the weather strip so that the ends of the weather strip are coupled by the core, the ends of the weather strip, which are coupled by the core are set within a cavity of a mold, a rubber material is poured into the cavity, and the core is removed from the ends of the weather strip after molding.

  • Patent number: 4819382
Abstract: A weather strip has a base portion to be mounted along an opening of a window of an automobile body and a seal portion projecting from the base portion to be come in contact with a window glass. The seal portion is composed of a pair of dogleg-shaped portions defining a hollow poriton of a nearly lozenge-shaped section, and a lip portion extending from a top of the hollow seal portion in a direction along an upper half portion of one of the pair of dogleg-shaped portions. The lip portion is pressed by the window glass when the window glass is closed. The thickness (T1) of the lip portion, the thickness (T2) of one of the pair of dogleg-shaped portions, and the thickness (T3) of another one of the pair of dogleg-shaped portions have a relation expressed by the following inequality:T1>T2>T3. And the lip portion extends in a direction approximate to a vertical direction as compared with the extending direction of the upper half portion of the one of the pair of dogleg-shaped portions.

  • Patent number: 4676856
Abstract: A weather strip for a vehicle has a channel-shaped base portion having a U-shaped cross section and provided with retaining lips for retaining a flange of a vehicle body, a seal portion integrally projecting from an outer surface of the base portion, and a core member made of synthetic resin and having a U-shaped cross section, which is embedded in the channel-shaped base portion. The method for producing such a weather strip as described above includes the steps of extruding a strip-shaped thermoplastic synthetic resin sheet having stress concentrating portions which are broken when bending stress is applied thereto, with rubber material to obtain an extruded body, heating the obtained extruded body for curing the rubber material thereof, applying bending stress to the cured extruded body for separating the core member in the stress concentrating portion and bending the separated core member with the rubber material to have a U-shaped cross section.

  • Patent number: 4513044
Abstract: A colored weather strip attached to a flange on an automobile body defining a door opening. It has a sealing portion, and a U-shaped trim portion formed from solid rubber and joined integrally with the sealing portion. The trim portion has an outer surface covered by a colored solid rubber layer having a color which differs from those of the sealing and trim portions. The colored layer extends beyond the trim portion to cover a part of the outer surface of the sealing portions up to a point close to but not into the area where the automobile door contacts the sealing portion.
