    Abstract: A refrigerating system including a refrigerant circuit having a condenser, evaporator and wobble plate type compressor with a variable displacement mechanism. Two passages communicate between the crank chamber and the suction chamber in the cylinder block. A bellows is disposed in a first passage and controls the communication between the crank chamber and the suction chamber response to crank chamber pressure. A control valve is disposed in the second passage and controls communication between the crank chamber and the suction chamber in the second passage in response to a signal generated outside of the compressor. A control circuit controls the generation of the signal in response to thermodynamic characteristics related to the evaporator. The signal activates or deactivates the second control valve when the characteristic indicates a value beyond a predetermined range of values.

    Abstract: A reciprocating piston type refrigerant compressor is disclosed. The compressor includes a housing having a cylinder block provided with a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber adjacent the cylinder block. A piston slides within each cylinder and is reciprocated by a drive mechanism which includes a rotary drive shaft, a rotor mounted on the drive shaft, and a coupling mechanism which converts the rotary motion of the rotor into the reciprocating motion of the pistons. The coupling mechanism includes an inclined member which has an inclined surface disposed at an adjustable incline angle. Accordingly, the stroke of the pistons within the cylinders can be changed by adjusting the incline angle of the inclined surface in response to the change of pressure in the crank chamber.

    Abstract: A slant plate type compressor with a capacity or displacement adjusting mechanism. The compressor includes a housing having a cylinder block provided with a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber. A piston is slidably fitted within each of the cylinders and is reciprocated by a drive mechanism which includes a member having a surface with an adjustable incline angle. The incline angle is controlled by the pressure condition in the crank chamber. The pressure in the crank chamber is controlled by a control mechanism which comprises a passageway communicating between the crank chamber and a suction chamber, and valve to control the closing and opening of the passageway. The valve is disposed in a central bore which is formed in the cylinder block and supports one end of a drive shaft. A conduit extends from the central bore through the cylinder block and to the suction chamber.

    Abstract: A wobble plate type compressor with a variable displacement mechanism including a compressor housing is disclosed. A cylinder block including a plurality of cylinders is disposed in said compressor housing and a crank chamber is formed between the end of said cylinder block and a front end plate. An inclined plate is attached to a cam rotor which is further attached to a drive shaft. Rotational motion of the drive shaft is converted by the cam rotor and the inclined plate into nutational motion of the wobble plate. A plurality of pistons are coupled to the wobble plate with each piston being reciprocably fitted within a respective one of the cylinders. A rotation preventing mechanism includes a guide plate disposed at the bottom of the compressor housing, parallel with the drive shaft. A cylindrical block is rotatably disposed within a hole formed in an extended portion of the wobble plate.

    Abstract: A reciprocating piston type refrigerant compressor includes a compressor housing having a cylinder block provided with a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber adjacent the cylinder block. A piston slides within each cylinder and is reciprocated by a wobble plate driven by a cam rotor mounted on a drive shaft. The cam rotor includes an adjustable slant angle in close proximity to the wobble plate. Accordingly, the stroke of the pistons within the cylinders can be changed by adjusting the slant angle of the sloping surface. The slant angle of the sloping surface is adjusted in response to the change of pressure in the crank chamber. The crank chamber communicates with the suction chamber through a passageway and a valve control mechanism controls the opening and closing of the passageway. Thus, the capacity of the compressor of can be adjusted by changing the slant angle of the sloping surface of the slant plate in response to the operation of the valve control mechanism.

    Abstract: A wobble plate type compressor which includes a compressor housing having a plurality of cylinders and a crank chamber adjacent the cylinders is disclosed. A reciprocative piston is slidably fitted within each of the cylinders. A drive mechanism is coupled to the pistons. The drive mechanism includes a drive shaft which is rotatably supported in an opening of a front end plate and extends into the compressor housing. The drive shaft is supported by a radial bearing. The drive shaft is attached to an end surface of a cam rotor at an inclination angle .theta..sub.1 and rotates therewith. The angle .theta..sub.1 is predetermined so that under severe operating conditions the interior surface of the radial bearing and the exterior surface of the drive shaft uniformly contact each other to prevent damage due to partial contact. Also, an urging mechanism causes the inner end surface of the cam rotor to uniformly contact a thrust bearing disposed between the cam rotor and the front end plate.

    Abstract: A refrigerant wobble plate type compressor is disclosed which includes pistons for being reciprocated within respective cylinders by a wobble plate member. The wobble plate member is adjacently disposed and relatively rotatably borne on an inclining surface of an inclined rotor member. The inclined rotor member is secured on an inner end of a drive shaft. First and second end plates are mounted on one end and an opposite end of a compressor housing respectively. The first end plate comprises inlet and outlet ports, and defines discharge and suction chambers. The drive shaft is rotatably borne in the second end plate and extends from the exterior to the interior of the compressor housing. A first anti-friction thrust bearing assembly is mounted between an inner end surface of the second end plate and an opposite end of the inclining surface of the inclined rotor member.

    Abstract: A wobble plate compressor with a variable displacement mechanism is disclosed. The compressor includes a compressor housing having a crank chamber and a cylinder block. A plurality of cylinders is formed in the cylinder block. A drive shaft is rotatably supported in the housing. A rotor is fixed on the drive shaft and is hingedly connected to an inclined plate through a hinge mechanism. The hinge mechanism includes a first arm portion which is formed on either the rotor or inclined plate, a second arm portion having an elongated hole on the other of the rotor or the inclined plate, and a guide pin fixedly disposed in the hole of the first arm portion. A wobble portion is disposed adjacent the inclined plate and converts rotational motion of the inclined plate into nutational motion. A plurality of pistons are coupled to the wobble plate through a plurality of piston rods. Each piston is reciprocatingly fitted within a respective one of the cylinders.

A fixed scroll with first end plate and first spiral element is fixedly disposed in the housing. An orbiting scroll with a second end plate and a second spiral element is disposed for orbiting motion in the housing. The first and second spiral elements interfit with one another at an angular offset to make a plurality of line contacts to define at least one pair of sealed off fluid pockets. A drive pin extends from an inner end of a drive shaft. The orbiting scroll has a boss which rotatably supports a bushing. An eccentric hole is formed in the bushing and the drive pin is received within this hole.

    Abstract: A wobble plate type compressor is disclosed which includes a compressor housing having a crank chamber and a cylinder block which is provided with an axial center bore and a plurality of cylinders. A plurality of pistons are slidably fitted within each of the cylinders. A cam rotor is disposed within the crank chamber to rotate together with a drive shaft. A wobble plate is coupled to the pistons through each connecting rod. The wobble plate is disposed on the inclined surface of the cam rotor to convert rotating motion of the cam rotor into reciprocating motion to be imparted to the pistons while preventing the rotational motion of the wobble plate. A first bevel gear is non-rotatably disposed within the center bore of the cylinder block. A second bevel gear is fixed on the wobble plate and engaged with the first bevel gear through spherical member to prevent rotating of the wobble plate.

    Abstract: A slant plate type compressor, such as a wobble plate type compressor, with a variable displacement mechanism for use in a refrigeration circuit is disclosed. The bellows operates in accordance with the crank chamber pressure. A control valve is disposed in the second passageway and controls communication between the crank chamber and the suction chamber in the second passageway in response to signal from an external sensor. This configuration enables the compressor to be operated at maximum capacity when the refrigeration circuit is turned on until the temperature in the passenger compartment of a car reaches a desired temperature without input from the pressure in the crank chamber.

The piston is reciprocated by a swash plate driven by a drive shaft through a hinge coupling mechanism which includes a mechanism for changing the slant angle of the swash plate. The swash plate is supported for nutational (wobbling) and rotational motion on the drive shaft through a spherical bush and is operatively connected to the pistons through bearing shoes. Accordingly, each piston accomplishes reciprocating movement within a cylinder by the rotation of the swash plate and the stroke of piston is changed by the hinge coupling mechanism due to a pressure difference between the crank chamber and the suction chamber.

A fixed scroll, which is mounted within the housing, has a circular end plate from which a first spiral wrap extends. The orbiting scroll has a circular end plate from which a second spiral wrap extends; the first and second wraps interfit to define at least one pair of sealed off fluid pockets. The end plate of the fixed scroll partitions the inner chamber of the housing into a suction chamber and rear chamber. The rear chamber is divided into a discharge chamber and an intermediate pressure chamber. The circular end plate of the fixed scroll has at least one pair of holes symmetrically positioned to connect the sealed off fluid pockets to the intermediate pressure chamber.

    Abstract: A reciprocating piston type refrigerant compressor includes a compressor housing having a cylinder block provided with a plurality of cylinders and crank chamber adjacent the cylinder block. A piston slides within each of cylinders and is reciprocated by a wobble plate driven by a cam rotor mounted on a drive shaft. The cam rotor comprises a rotor plate fixed on an inner terminal end of a drive shaft and slant plate with a sloping surface in close proximity to the wobble plate. The slant plate is hinged to the rotor plate for adjusting the slant angle thereof in response to change of pressure in the crank chamber. The pressure in the crank chamber is controlled by controlling communication between the crank chamber and the suction chamber. The wobble plate is supported for a nutational motion on a ball element which is disposed on supporting element slidably carried in the cylinder block to maintain the wobbling center thereof on the center of the ball element.
