  • Patent number: 4692555
Abstract: A process for the production of diphenolic compounds having a divalent bridge. A first disubstituted phenol is reacted with an aldehyde in the presence of a secondary amine and excess alcohol to form an ether intermediate. The ether intermediate is reacted with a phenol having an open ortho or para position to form a diphenolic.

  • Patent number: 4609767
Abstract: 4-[[4-hydroxy-3-(1-methylpropyl)-5-lower alkylphenyl]-carbon bridge]-2,6-di-lower alkylphenols. The compounds of the invention such as 4-[[4-hydroxy-3,5-bis(1-methylpropyl)phenyl]methyl]-2,6-dimethylphenol have very low melting points, some being liquid at room temperature, and other physical and chemical properties making them valuable as curing agents and antioxidants and for preparing epoxy resins and other chemicals.

  • Patent number: 4603221
Abstract: 6-Alkoxytetralones are prepared by gradually adding a persulfate to a heated mixture of a 6-alkoxytetralin, a salt of a divalent metal, and a tertiary amine and maintaining the 6-alkoxytetralin in intimate admixture with the persulfate until it has been oxidized to the corresponding 6-alkoxytetralone. The reaction is preferably conducted in solution or dispersion. Preferred reaction ingredients are 6-methoxytetralin, cupric sulfate, an alkylpyridine, and sodium persulfate.

  • Patent number: 4511716
Abstract: In the preparation of adenine from hydrogen cyanide, formamide, an ammonium salt, and methyldisulfide, the formation of a polymer by-product is reduced by heating a reaction mixture comprising the formamide and ammonium salt in a closed vessel to a reaction temperature of about 50.degree.-180.degree. C., adding the hydrogen cyanide to the preheated mixture over a period of about 1-5 hours, and maintaining the reaction temperature until the reaction is complete.
