  • Patent number: 11512629
Abstract: The invention relates to an adjustable-length connecting rod for a reciprocating piston engine, to a reciprocating piston engine, and to a vehicle, where an effective connecting rod length of the connecting rod can be changed, and the connecting rod has a hydraulic length adjustment device which has a hydraulic working chamber, a hydraulic duct, a valve recess with a valve recess longitudinal axis, and a valve device which is arranged in the valve recess and has a valve chamber, where the valve device is configured for opening and/or shutting of a hydraulic medium outflow from the hydraulic working chamber, and the hydraulic duct opens into the valve recess at an orifice opening in an inner wall section of the valve recess.

  • Patent number: 6062027
Abstract: In an internal combustion engine with an exhaust gas turbocharger comprising a charge-air pipe and an exhaust gas recirculation pipe for a partial stream of the exhaust gas, a nozzle-diffuser unit is provided in the charge-air pipe, into which unit the recirculation pipe opens in a passage of restricted cross-section. In order to achieve high turbine efficiency as well as high exhaust quality, it is provided in the invention that the exhaust gas turbocharger be configured at least as a twin-entry unit, and that at least two exhaust gas flow paths be conducted separately to the entrance into the exhaust gas turbocharger, and that an exhaust gas recirculation branch depart from each exhaust gas flow path, and further that a control valve be positioned in each recirculation branch for regulation of the exhaust gas recirculation.

  • Patent number: 5279266
Abstract: In a two-stroke internal combustion engine with at least one cylinder opeg into an exhaust passage with a diffuser-type flare whose shape is determined mainly by that of the lower contour, an optimum flow pattern in the exhaust passage is obtained by providing the exhaust passage with a nozzle-like throat in the immediate vicinity of the cylinder, which is formed by the lower contour and is followed by the diffuser-type flare, either immediately or at a distance.

  • Patent number: 5044159
Abstract: In an exhaust system for two-stroke cycle engines, comprising an exhaust pipe whose front end, which is characterised by a constant cross-section, is followed by two or more conical sections, these conical sections are configured as diffusers, which are connected to the front end of the exhaust pipe with its constant cross-section by means of branch pipes of different length, and which open into a common exhaust header at the other end, which header in turn is connected to the exhaust tail pipe comprising a catalytic converter and/or a silencer. This arrangement has the effect that a pressure wave coming from the cylinder is twice reflected as a suction wave arriving at the still open exhaust port at different times due to the difference in pipe length. In this manner the effective duration of the suction wave is prolonged over that of comparable exhaust systems of a known kind.

  • Patent number: 5040496
Abstract: In known two-stroke internal combustion engines with piston-controlled intake passages for the fresh charge and one or more exhaust passages for the exhaust gases, the actual direction of flow will deviate from the theoretical flow direction defined by the passage walls because of the influence exerted by the piston edge. The scavenge flow is deflected in the direction of the exhaust passage and the cylinder head, which will cause increased losses of fresh charge. This will considerably lower scavenge efficiency, and thus lead to a marked deterioration of engine performance, fuel consumption and exhaust emission. In the invention these disadvantages are avoided by aligning the flow guide vanes such that they form an angle, preferably of 90.degree., thus acting as a flow director.
