  • Patent number: 4680656
Abstract: An information disk store possesses an air circulation system in a substantially sealed housing, by means of which system, which includes a channel for directing air to the end of the hub on which the disks are mounted, and a low-pressure compartment that is shut off from the disk compartment by a main filter, a first positive pressure gradient from the bottom to the top of the housing is set up in the peripheral space adjacent to the disks. It is advantageous to also set up a second positive pressure gradient in the direction of rotation of the disks, in the peripheral space adjacent to the disks. The novel air circulation system can be used with advantage in all information disk storage systems in which the write and read operations may be adversely affected by dust and dirt.

  • Patent number: 4475136
Abstract: A device for positioning objects which have a low mass, especially for positioning magnetic heads over preselected magnetic tracks on at least one magnetic disk, which can be coupled to a drive, in a memory processing unit, in which a carriage, which is capable of being moved toward and away from the axis of rotation of the magnetic disk, carries at least one magnetic head, this carriage being so mounted between guide elements that it can be displaced by a drive motor longitudinally with respect to the chassis of the unit, wherein the guide elements, in particular pairs of anti-friction bearings, engage either side of the carriage, at least one of the pairs of anti-friction bearings being gimbal-mounted in order to counteract any tilting moments which may act on the carriage. The device advantageously includes a band-type drive mechanism for displacing the carriage, comprising a rotatable cylindrical member around which the band means is wound and which may serve as an additional bearing element.

  • Patent number: 4216510
Abstract: A drive apparatus for a magnetic disc, particularly a flexible magnetic disc in an envelope, distinguished by a compact design which is achieved by so designing and arranging the linkage between the drive's closure member and disc clamping member that they take up as little room as possible. By designing the linkage in the form of a roller and lever arrangement and arranging them substantially on the central longitudinal axis of the housing of the drive apparatus in the upper portion of the housing, the maximum amount of space is available on either side of the linking means for printed circuit boards and electronic components. In a very advantageous embodiment, the closure member, linkage and clamping member and part of the housing are assembled as a single unit which is ready for fitting. The drive apparatus of the invention can be used for any kind of flexible or rigid magnetic disc.
