  • Patent number: 7274675
Abstract: A method for distributing participants of a conference handled by a first conference unit in a packet switched network is disclosed. This is provided by, when a first condition is reached, locating a second conference unit satisfying a second condition, reserving conference call capacity in said second conference unit, transferring one or more of said participants from the first to the second conference unit and preferably entering said first conference unit as a participant in said second conference unit, wherein data streams of possible conference participants still attached to the first conference unit are mixed in the first conference unit and communicated as one data stream to the second conference unit. The invention is particularly useful when applied to the SIP protocol in a 3GPP network.

  • Patent number: 7231420
Abstract: Problems related to operation and administration of multi-user application programs, particularly real-time applications, in systems of networked computers are solved using an enhancement of a selected call control protocol, such as the H.323 or SIP protocol. Each client, server, gatekeeper, and optional firewall of a system is provided with a specific real-time codec with a common interface adapted to a multimedia call control protocol, such as H.323 or SIP. The codec is adapted to cooperate with each of the client, sever, gatekeeper, and optional firewall. Thus, for example, each client can use its data communication protocol of choice without the need for the same data communication protocol choice on the server side of the application.

  • Patent number: 7162023
Abstract: In a telecommunication system, adapted to provide subscriber related services, a layered architecture including on a service layer a network side service executor and a user terminal service handler is employed. A call is triggered through a user interface provided by the service handler, which conveys a call set-up request and information to the service executor. The service executor communicates directly with a corresponding service executor at a service layer of a destination system and exchanges service information to detect a service interaction problem. A requested call can be established by other signalling and media handler functions when no essential service interaction problem is detected.

  • Patent number: 6738383
Abstract: The present invention relates to an arrangement for distributing and dispatching traffic in a network, especially H.323 generated traffic, which arrangement comprises one or more gatekeepers, here designated as so-called external or real gatekeepers, and for the purpose of utilizing such real gatekeepers in a far more efficient and cost saving manner, and also for avoiding reconfiguration of endpoints depending on which gatekeepers with which they want to communicate, the present invention suggests a solution characterized by the introduction of one or more internal gatekeepers, here also designated as so-called internal lightweight gatekeepers, each such internal gatekeeper basically understanding any message used by any endpoint when registering to a real gatekeeper.

  • Patent number: 6601099
Abstract: A method of extending the use of SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) in a communication system wherein H.323 or SIP-compliant end-points communicate with the media traffic directly between other H.323 or SIP-compliant end-points. An extension of the SIP protocol is utilized to provide better support for charging. A plurality of equivalent INVITE messages are sent to the SIP server at regular time intervals for the duration of the session. Charging for SIP conversations can be determined in a very accurate and expedient manner by observing when the INVITE messages cease, indicating that the conversation between the two end-points is concluded.

  • Publication number: 20030021238
Abstract: A method of distinguishing one conference from other conferences within a conference unit of a packet switched network is disclosed. This is carried out by allocating a conference identification for the conference, and registering the allocated conference identification into a call server (e.g. a Gatekeeper or a CSCF) as a user identification. The sessions transmitted from the participants of the conference are addressed using the conference identification, and the call server executes the sessions as any other terminating session for a user, and routes the sessions to the conference unit as if the conference unit was a terminating user entity. The method is particularly suitable for IP network supporting the SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) or the H.

  • Publication number: 20020156903
Abstract: The invention provides a solution for alleviating problems related to operation and administration of multi-user application programs, particularly real-time applications, in systems of networked computers by means of a novel feature, implemented as an enhancement of a selected call control protocol, such as the H.323 or SIP protocol. Each client, server, Gatekeeper and optional firewall means of a system according to invention is provided with a specific real-time codec with a common interface adapted to a multimedia call control protocol, such as H.323 or SIP, the codec being adapted to co-operate with each of said means. Thus, for example, each of said client means is allowed to use its data communication protocol of choice without the need for the same data communication protocol choice on the server side of the application.
