    Abstract: Exemplary embodiments provide bias-able devices for use in electrostato-graphic printing apparatuses using conformable and electrically relaxable rubber materials. The rubber material can include a plurality of nanotubes distributed uniformly and/or spatially-controlled throughout a rubber matrix for providing the rubber material with a uniform mechanical conformability and a uniform electrical resistivity. The rubber material can be used as a functional layer disposed over a conductive substrate such as a conductive core depending on the specific design or engine architecture. Other functional layers can also be disposed over the conductive substrate and/or the rubber material of the bias-able devices including bias charging rolls (BCRs) and bias transfer rolls (BTRs).

The fixing member can include a substrate having one or more functional layers formed thereon. The one or more functional layers can include an outermost or top surface having a surface wettability that is hydrophobic and/or oleophobic; ultrahydrophobic and/or ultraoleophobic; or superhydrophobic and/or superoleophobic by forming textured features. Such fixing member can be used as an oil-less fusing member for high speed, high quality electrophotographic printing to ensure and maintain a good toner release from the fused toner image on an image supporting material(e.g., a paper sheet), and further assist paper stripping. In addition, the textured surface can provide an oil-free, such as wax-free, toner design for the oil-less fixing process.

Matrix drive methods may be used to address each individual micro-heater and deliver heat to selected surface areas. Depending on different marking applications, the digital heating element may be used to selectively tune the wettability of thermo-sensitive coating, selectively change ink rheology, selectively remove liquid from the surface, selectively fuse/fix toner/ink on the paper.

The systems and methods can include a heating component with a susceptor layer comprising carbon nanotubes (CNTs). An excitation unit with an electrical coil can be positioned a proximate distance from the heating component Current through the electrical coil can inductively heat the susceptor layer and the heating component. The heat from the susceptor layer and the heating component can be used to fuse toner onto an image-receiving substrate. The CNTs can reduce electronic hardware costs in the electrophotographic device in relation to the costs associated with conventional materials.
