Abstract: A method of playing an optical disc is disclosed. The method includes language preferences being compared to language tracks on the disc. A language preference is stored in a first register. The language preference is compared to the language tracks on the disc. If the language preference matches one or more of the language tracks on the disc, a value is stored in a second register to identify a matching track. One of the language tracks is read from the disc according to the value stored in the second register.

Abstract: Techniques for improved for improved seamless AB loop play, such as may be implemented in an optical disk reproducing device (100) are provided. In particular, the invention addresses the need for improved seamless AB loop play in an optical disk reproducing apparatus (100) with particular concern for two cases: (1) where the data points A and B are close together and (2) where fragmentation (non-sequential and/or non-contiguous data block storage) exists on the storage medium (101) from which the AB loop play data is to be read.

Abstract: A device is equipped with local storage arrangement such as HDD and a removable optical storage carrier input device. Removable carriers include storage applications that necessitate storage space for storing data items. A storage management unit allocates storage space of the local storage arrangement to the inserted removable optical storage carrier and the application stored therein. The management unit also attributes to the portion identification information respecting access rights granted to the application with respect to data items stored in the allocated portion. The application is given no access to data items stored outside the allocated portion.

Abstract: A playback apparatus and associated method is disclosed for use in a reproducing system, the apparatus including a cache memory configured to store data read from a data source (1); a cache replacement unit (341) configured to identify certain of the data to be deleted from the cache memory (335) based on a determination of the data source data's use in at least two play modes of the apparatus; and a presentation unit (337) configured to obtain data from the cache memory (335) to be presented to a user. The playback apparatus further includes a disc control unit (343) configured to identify data to be read from the data source (1) to be stored in the cache memory (335) based on the current contents of the cache memory (335).
