  • Patent number: 6205805
Abstract: A motor vehicle dehumidifier, including a dehumidifying drying agent, that can provide a required dehumidifying capacity with a reduced overall quantity of drying agent compared to conventional drying agent-based dehumidifiers. In the present invention, a heat exchanger is disposed on an upstream side of a drying agent unit, and heat is exchanged in the heat exchanger between inside air to be dehumidified and low-temperature outside air used to cool the inside air. The air cooled by the heat exchanger flows into the drying agent unit and is dehumidified. Because the air has an increased relative humidity as a result of being cooled, the amount of water adsorbed from it per unit of drying agent is increased, as the water adsorption characteristic of the drying agent is greatly influenced by the relative humidity of the air passing over it, and is markedly improved by an increase in the relative humidity of that air.

  • Patent number: 6179706
Abstract: A seat air conditioner for a vehicle has a seat having a pad and a blower unit for forcibly blowing conditioned air toward the seat. The pad has an introduction passage for introducing blown air toward a surface of the pad, plural distribution passages communicating with and radially extending from the introduction passage and plural communication passages causing communication among the distribution passages. Each of the distribution passages and the communication passages is formed as a groove in the surface of the pad. Therefore, even when a passenger is seated on the seat, air does not stagnate but flows into the distribution passages extending outside a portion of the seat which contacts with the passenger through the communication passages. As a result, air is smoothly blown out from the seat, and the passenger immediately feels sufficiently warm and comfortable.

  • Patent number: 5390728
Abstract: The present invention provides an air conditioner for use in a vehicle that gives a comfortable air-conditioning feeling even when only one passenger is seated in a vehicle cabin, and the air-conditioning load of a heat exchanging means such as an evaporator can be reduced as low as possible. When only a driver is seated and an inside air circulation mode is employed in a cooling mode operation, the air blowing mode on the passenger seat side is set to a foot mode, and the degree of opening of an air mix damper 15b on the passenger seat side is set at 0%. Due to the foregoing, a cold wind blown out from a passenger seat lower outlet 11b is immediately sucked into an inside air entrance 25 open to a foot portion of the passenger seat, so that the temperature of an upstream position of the air flow of an evaporator 23 can be lowered. As a result, the cooling load of the evaporator 23 is reduced, and the power consumption of the compressor 27 can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5340021
Abstract: The object of the present invention is to supply air to passengers in an automobile so that they will feel more comfortable in the presence of solar radiation by suppressing a rise in temperature in a vehicle passenger compartment caused by solar radiation. There is provided a cold air damper which feeds cold air immediately after an evaporator to a face blow port and mixes it with the conditioned air that has passed through an air mixing damper, with the amount of blown air is changed by a blower fan. A control means detects the amount of solar radiation present by using a solar radiation sensor. This invention calculates the temperature of air blown out in the absence of solar radiation, calculates the temperature of air blown out in the presence of solar radiation, calculates a corrected blowing rate according to a thermal equilibrium equation in the presence of solar radiation, and calculates a blowing rate in the presence of solar radiation.

  • Patent number: 5337802
Abstract: An air-conditioning apparatus for a vehicle having separate units for a driver's seat and an assistant driver's seat. Each of the units has first and second vent outlets opened to a cabin near the lateral side of the cabin and the center side of cabin. A sensor is provided for detecting an amount of the solar radiation. The sensor also can detect an azimuth angle and elevation angle of the sun with respect to the direction of movement. An increase in the thermal load due to the solar radiation is determined, and the calculated increase is allocated to the first and second vent outlets by changing the temperature and/or the amount of the air discharged from the respective outlets, so that the passenger can feel a uniform temperature irrespective of the position of the sun with respect to the direction of movement of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 5309731
Abstract: An air conditioning apparatus for an electric car capable of preventing condensation from forming on windshields, while decreasing electric power consumption. A duct forms therein a first passageway connecting an inside air inlet 8 with a lower outlet (foot outlet) 10 for discharging an air flow toward a lower part of a passenger in a cabin, and a second passageway for connecting an outside air inlet 11 with a defroster outlet 12 for discharging an air flow toward an inside surface of a windshield. A heat exchanger(s) is (are) arranged in the duct to make contact with the flow of air in the first and second passageways so as to heat the flows of air therein. The inside air after being heated by the heat exchanger is discharged from the lower outlet 10 to the cabin, while the outside air after heating is discharged from the defroster outlet 12 toward the windshield.

  • Patent number: 5209079
Abstract: A control apparatus for an air conditioner used for a vehicle can properly control the temperature of air in the vehicle according to the quantity of solar radiation so as to maintain the temperature as not too cool for a person in the vehicle while suppressing the temperature as not too hot for the person.
