  • Patent number: 8344983
Abstract: A liquid crystal display apparatus includes a plurality of areas in which response speeds greatly different from each other coexist in a pixel. A first replacement process section replaces the image data of the desired target frame with a first gradation, when a gradation transition from a current frame to a desired target frame corresponds to the above gradation transition. A second replacement process section replaces the image data of the current frame with a second value. The first value is set to a value causing the pixel to respond at a relatively higher speed without the occurrence of the excessive brightness. Without avoiding the deterioration of the image, it is possible to drive a liquid crystal display apparatus including areas whose response speeds are different from each other coexist in the pixel, such as a liquid crystal display apparatus of vertically aligned mode and normally black mode.

  • Patent number: 8345197
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes: a vertical alignment liquid crystal layer; first and second substrates facing each other with the liquid crystal layer interposed; first and second electrodes arranged on the first and second substrates to face the liquid crystal layer; and at least one alignment film in contact with the liquid crystal layer. A pixel region includes a first liquid crystal domain in which liquid crystal molecules are tilted in a first direction around the center of a plane, and approximately at the middle of the thickness, of the liquid crystal layer responsive to a voltage applied. The first liquid crystal domain is close to at least a part of an edge of the first electrode. The part includes a first edge portion in which an azimuthal direction, perpendicular to the part and pointing toward the inside of the first electrode, defines an angle greater than 90 degrees to the first direction.

  • Patent number: 8330890
Abstract: A plurality of display elements each includes two signal lines: S1 and S2. An electrode 4, which is one of the electrodes constituting an element capacitor Cp, is connected to the signal line S1 via a switching element TFT1, while the other electrode 5 is connected to the signal line S2 via a switching element S2. The gate electrodes of the switching elements TFT1 and TFT2 are connected to a single common scanning line G. With this structure the drive voltage applied to the element capacitor can be increased even when a TFT has a limited withstand pressure.

  • Publication number: 20120293763
Abstract: This invention provides an exposure apparatus that can inhibit visual recognition of display unevenness at a joint portion even if scanning temporarily stops during scanning exposure, as well as a liquid crystal display device and a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device. This invention is an exposure apparatus for exposing a photoalignment film provided on a substrate. The exposure apparatus includes a light source and a photomask, and exposes the photoalignment film through the photomask while scanning the light source or the substrate. When a direction in which the light source or the substrate is scanned is taken as a scanning direction, and a direction that is orthogonal to the scanning direction is taken as a vertical direction, the photomask includes a first region and a second region that is adjacent to the first region in the vertical direction. The first region includes a plurality of first transparent portions inside a first light-shielding portion.
