    Abstract: A method for manufacturing a ferrule having butt end face on the front and positioning holes on both sides in the width direction and formed with plurality of fiber holes for inserting optical fibers, arranged in such a manner as to be inclined in the thickness direction, by using at least two molds which are arranged in an opposed manner and either or both of which can be moved in the opening/closing direction. Each of at least two molds has a first forming wall for forming the butt end face and a second forming wall for forming a working portion for applying a pressing force perpendicular to the butt end face at the rear of the ferrule. A core for forming the fiber hole and molding pins for forming the positioning holes are arranged in parallel and held in such a manner as to be inclined at a predetermined angle .theta. in the thickness direction of the ferrule molded by at least two molds.

    Abstract: An optical connector including a ferrule having a butt end face at a front portion thereof and positioning holes formed at opposite sides of the ferrule in a widthwise direction of the ferrule. A plurality of optical fibers are coupled to the ferrule, and the optical connector is adapted to be abutted against another optical connector in an abutting direction. The positioning pin holes and the plurality of optical fibers are arranged in parallel with each other at least in the vicinity of the butt end face of the ferrule so that an arrangement plane of the plurality of optical fibers and the positioning pin holes is inclined at an inclination angle of .theta. with respect to a plane of the abutting direction, and so that a line where the butt end face and the arrangement plane cross each other is orthogonal to each axis of the plurality of optical fibers.

    Abstract: Disclosed in an optical switching connector provided with a first and second ferrule disposed with end faces thereof abutting on each other and two reference pins disposed in parallel at a predetermined interval. The first and second ferrules have two parallel pin holes, respectively. The two reference pins are inserted in the pin holes. The pin holes have an elongated sectional shape enabling the reference pins to move laterally by exactly a certain movement pitch. The first and second ferrules are able to be positioned at one position determined by one of the inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins and another position determined by the other inside surfaces of the pin holes being pressed against the reference pins.

    Abstract: A can lid feeder, for use with a can seamer, has a separator for can lids which projects into a drop hole provided in a cylindrical body at the bottom of a hopper and which separates dropped and stacked can lids one by one from the bottom of the stack. A rotary shaft of the separator extends in a gear box which is supported in the feeder in a freely swingable manner. The gear box is swingable so that the separator can move in the radial direction with respect to the cylindrical body having the drop hole. After a side surface of the swinging gear box has been brought into contact with the outer circumferential surface of the cylindrical body, the gear box is fixed in position by a clamp lever.

    Abstract: A packed can is seamed by clamping a can body and a lid between a lifter and a chuck, rotationally driving the entire assembly while applying a compression force thereto, and pressing a groove portion of a roll from the outside to an edge portion of the lid to deform such edge portion. Seaming is effected by pressing the groove portion of the roll to the edge portion of the lid with the rotary axis of the roll maintained inclined with respect to the rotary axis of the chuck.

A seaming lever having the seaming rolls mounted thereon and the seaming chuck are respectively connected to the bottom end portions of a seaming roll shaft and a rotary cylinder via splines or serrations. The seaming lever and the seaming chuck are integrally connected by a connecting bracket.

    Abstract: A thin-walled can for sealingly enclosing liquid or gas, including a dome section, a counter section, a ground section, a heel section, and a side wall section, is improved so as to enhance pressure-proofness for a given wall thickness or to reduce wall thickness for a given pressure-proofness. A cross sectional shape of the dome section is formed of a curve whose radius of curvature changes substantially continuously along the curve, and the counter section contiguous to the dome section is formed so as to align with the direction of extension of the dome section. Preferably, the angle formed between the cross-section of the counter section and a vertical line is chosen to be within the range of 0.degree. to 15.degree.. Furthermore, preferably the cross-sectional shape of the heel section extending from the counter section through the ground section to the side wall section is a circular arc that is inwardly convex.

    Abstract: A proteinaceous substance having the following biochemical characteristics:(A) a strong cytolytic activity against mouse tumor cells L-929, but not cytotoxic activity for normal cells such as human fetus fibroblasts, human adult skin fibroblasts and chinese hamster fibroblasts (Don, V-79) and therefore a high tumor specificity: and(B) a strong anti-tumor and immunogenic activity against Meth-A sarcoma. When said substance is injected intravenously to the syngenic BALB/C mice inoculated with Meth-A sarcoma at a quantity of more than 72 units head, not only hemorrhagic necrosis, but also complete degradation is observed. Thereafter, even if it is attempted again to transplant the Meth-A sarcoma cells under the skin of Mice cured completely, successful plantation is not observed because of an acquired immunity:(C) the substance has no pyrogenetic action after intravenous injection to rabbits:(D) a molecular weight of 45,000.+-.
