  • Patent number: 6600779
Abstract: A signal processor used to process an analog read signal representing data stored on a magnetic disk allows for a faster read operation without requiring an increase in its circuit area or buffer memory space. The signal processor includes a decision feedback equalizer which selectively provides a feedback signal added to a read signal in reproducing data read from a storage medium. The signal processor also performs error correction. In performing error correction, the load of the error correcting process is detected and the processing speed is altered depending upon the detected load.

  • Patent number: 6522252
Abstract: A pressure sensor 10 has a sensor chip 14 attached in a package 13 formed with a stem 11 and a cap 12 bonded at open surface sides thereof. On both sides of a diaphragm 14a of the sensor chip, pressures are applied via a measurement pressure introducing tube 11a formed in the stem and a reference pressure introducing tube 12a formed in the cap. Here, a filter 15 is arranged in the reference pressure introducing tube and response to pressure at the reference pressure side is made slow. When the sensor is arranged in a room with a door and a pressure in the room is applied via two introducing tubes, if there is an abrupt change caused by the opening/closing of the door, the pressure change is immediately introduced only at the side of measurement pressure introducing tube with fast response and the differential pressure corresponding to the pressure change is applied on the diaphragm. As the differential pressure is employed, it can be determined whether the door is opened or closed.

  • Patent number: 6317855
Abstract: Data read from a recording medium, such as a CD or DVD, is checked for errors and the errors are corrected in a fast and efficient manner. First, an error detection code (EDC) is appended to the data, which is arranged in matrix form, by performing a predetermined checking arithmetic operation. Then, a first checking operation is performed on the data using the EDC to generate a first sample value. The data is then error corrected in a first direction and a first correction value is generated if an error is detected. A second checking operation is performed in the first direction using the first correction value to generate a second sample value. The first and second sample values are compared and a first check value is generated. The data is then error corrected in a second direction and a second correction value is generated if an error is detected. A third checking operation is performed in the first direction using the second correction value to generate a third sample value.

  • Patent number: 5666335
Abstract: Apparatus is provided that reads and writes data from and to an optical disk. The optical disk has a read-only memory area and writable memory area each including a plurality of sectors for storing data. The apparatus determines whether or not data read from one sector in the read-only memory area is in error. When the data is determined to be in error, the apparatus corrects the data in the sector using an error check and correction code. When the error in the data cannot be corrected by the ECC operation, the apparatus corrects the error and write the corrected data into a writable memory area by performing an exclusive OR operation on parity data previously stored on the optical disk and data in other sectors within the sector group having the data error.
