  • Patent number: 8971618
Abstract: A target and a method to use the target to determine the translucence of media is disclosed. The target has a first region and a second region. The first region comprises a color chart. The second region comprises a test pattern that is covered by the sample media when the sample media is loaded onto the target. The test target has a first area and a second area. An image of the target loaded with the sample media is used to determine the translucence of the sample media. The color of the media over the first and second areas of the test target are matched to the nearest color patches in the image of the color chart. The estimated actual colors of the media over the first and second areas of the test target are determined using the known colors of the nearest color patches. The translucence is determined using the difference between the estimated actual colors of the media over the first and second areas of the test target.

  • Patent number: 8817324
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and systems for aggregating print jobs of different lengths and/or customers to decrease the need for rewinding and splicing operations. An exemplary embodiment provides a method that comprises identifying individual label-printing jobs (1-8) that can be aggregated onto a roll of substrate (302), and forming an aggregated label-printing job (300). In the aggregated label-printing job (300) a longest print job (8) is imposed adjacent to a first end of the roll of substrate (302), and one or more shorter print jobs (2, 5, 7) are imposed adjacent to the longest print job (8) in the direction of a second end of the roll of substrate (302).

  • Publication number: 20140176967
Abstract: A method for colorimetric rendering includes receiving, by a display device, an image that has been preprocessed for adjusting color and disregarding, by the display device, the preprocessing for adjusting color. The display device performs a colorimetric rendering transform at the time of display or print of the image by using an embedded colorimetric reference. A display device for colorimetric rendering of digital images is also provided.

  • Publication number: 20130258360
Abstract: A method of creating an ensemble of visible color reference patches first adds a set of starting colors to a queue. The process then finds a candidate color within a color selection zone that is furthest away from colors existing in the queue. This candidate color is then selected by placing it in the queue. The steps of finding and selecting are repeated until a target number of selected colors is reached. The process then generates visible color patches of the selected colors for forming the ensemble.

  • Publication number: 20130158929
Abstract: Optical measurement device calibration systems and methods are disclosed. An exemplary method includes receiving calibration information from a plurality of optical measurement devices (200) at a central data store (124), the calibration information comprising at least real-time measurement data stored on the plurality of optical measurement devices, the plurality of optical measurement devices each at different print facilities. The method also includes analyzing at least one trend in the calibration information at the central data store. The method also includes issuing an instruction to at least one of the plurality of optical measurement devices to update a calibration parameter in the at least one optical measurement device based on the at least one trend.

  • Publication number: 20130141763
Abstract: The present disclosure provides methods and systems for ganging print jobs (102-112) that use different dies. An exemplary embodiment provides a non-transitory, computer-readable medium that includes code configured to direct a processor to identify individual label printing jobs (102-112) that are similar, but use different dies. A combined, or ganged, print job (506) is then formed from the individual label printing jobs (102-112), wherein the ganged print job (506) uses a multi-format die (300).

  • Patent number: 7927409
Abstract: A set of colorants for printing a multi-colored image when viewed under non-visible radiation outside of the visible spectrum can include a first colorant and a second colorant. The first colorant can be capable of absorbing non-visible radiation and shifting the wavelength of the non-visible radiation to a visible wavelength, thus producing a visible color. Likewise, the second colorant can be capable of absorbing the non-visible radiation and shifting the wavelength to a second visible wavelength, thus producing a different visible color.
