Abstract: Embodiments are directed to creating a triangle mesh by using a distance-minimum criterion on a plurality of feature points detected from an image, computing, based on the triangle mesh, global features that describe a global representation of content of the image, and computing, based on the triangle mesh, local features that describe a local representation of content of the image. The global features may include a triangle distribution scatter of mesh that shows a texture density of the content of the image and a color histogram of mesh region that represents image color information corresponding to a mesh region of interest. The local features may include a definition of each mesh triangle shape via its three angles and a color histogram of each mesh triangle to represent image color information corresponding to each triangle region.

The method includes enabling input of strokes representing a first character in a first area of a touch sensitive display; determining the first character from the strokes; determining one or more candidates of characters for word association with the first character; presenting the one or more candidates on the display; and enabling selection among the one or more candidates. Abstract: An apparatus, method, system and computer program product are provided for selectively and interactively downloading a media item, such as a video. Prior to downloading the media item, the user may first download an approximation of each group of pictures (GOPs) of the video. The user can then browse through the approximations to determine which of the GOPs to download. Each approximation may include at least part of the intra frame (“I-frame”) of the corresponding GOP. In particular, the approximation may include, only the low-frequency, component of the I-frame or the I-frame itself. Once downloaded, the approximations may be displayed, and the user may select one or more of the approximations to selectively download the corresponding GOPs. The selected GOPs may thereafter be downloaded in accordance with a selected level of specificity or detail.

Abstract: An electronic device having a memory, a display, control apparatus and a data processor. When the data processor executes a program stored in the memory of the electronic device, the electronic device receives an image containing a person, the image further containing a face component, the face component containing the face of the person; displays the image on the display; locates the face component within the image; emphasizes the face component; receives image annotation information concerning the face component; and saves the image annotation information to the memory of the electronic device. The image annotation information may take the form of contact information for use in a contact database. A method uses the face component to locate other images in the database that also contain the person, and adds the annotation information to those images.

Abstract: The invention is a method for locating characters in digital images, using an image layering process. The method includes the transforming the digital data of the digital image into normalized digital color image data and into digital grayscale image data; discarding redundant components of the normalized digital color image data and/or the digital grayscale image data; generating binary image layers from the non-discarded grayscale and normalized color image data according to a layering process; and using a recognition algorithm on the binary image layers to recognize connected components that can represent characters or part of characters contained in the digital image.

Abstract: A device for utilizing camera motion detection for a camera input interface includes a feature extractor, a feature tracker and a capture module. The feature extractor is configured to determine at least one obvious feature in an image frame. The feature tracker is in communication with the feature extractor. The feature tracker is configured to determine an amount of movement of the at least one obvious feature in a subsequent image frame and compare the amount of movement to a threshold. The capture module is in communication with the feature tracker. The capture module is configured to capture an image in response to the comparison of the amount of movement to the threshold.

Abstract: A method is provided for generating a graphical image string that is capable of conveying an intended message. In particular, a user is enabled to select one or more graphics from a graphic language database, wherein the annotations (or descriptions) associated with each graphic selected can be combined to convey the intended message. A common sense augmented translation of the combined graphics can be performed in order to convert the graphical image string into a text message. In addition, the opposite translation may similarly be performed in order to generate a graphical image string, or graphic SMS or MMS message, IM, E-mail, or the like, from a text message. A corresponding electronic device, network entity, system and computer program product are likewise provided.
