  • Patent number: 5003885
Abstract: A warhead for an airborne body which is employed for the attacking of a lightly-armored target through the intermediary of splinters or fragments, and wherein the warhead possesses within a protective enclosure a safe-and-arm and triggering arrangement, an explosive charge and a splinter-forming insert.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 14, 1989
Date of Patent: April 2, 1991
    Assignee: Diehl GmbH & Co.
    Inventors: Karl Rudolf, Konrad Ringel
  • Patent number: 4815384
Abstract: A housing for joinable or interconnectable cutting charges, which is constituted of a casing, two end surfaces or plates, two spacer flaps, and of the insert. The frontal surfaces of the inserts are at least flush with the surfaces of the end plates or project therebeyond by only a slight distance. The end plates are provided with bent or angled portions facing towards the explosive, wherein the angled portions are in surface contact with the inserts and are fixedly connected with the latter. Through the end surface which is bent over towards the explosive and the insert, the separating location between two neighboring cutting charges is relatively well sealed with respect to the exiting gases of the explosive.

    Filed: January 12, 1988
Date of Patent: March 28, 1989
    Assignee: Diehl GmbH & Co.
    Inventors: Konrad Ringel, Karl Rudolf
  • Patent number: 4711181
Abstract: A warhead which incorporates a rotationally-symmetrical hollow charge, and provides for a selectively centered or eccentric triggering thereof through the intermediary of suitably arranged detonators. Arranged symmetrically relative to the centrally-located detonator, are two further detonators in a principal plane. Through the symmetrical arrangement of two detonators outside of the principal axis of the warhead, there is generated an areal, cutting charge jet-like particle stream or jet, which will produce a line-like penetrating crater in the target at a relatively extensive penetrating depth.

Date of Patent: December 8, 1987

  • Patent number: 4651618
Abstract: A process for the introduction of a charge into a projectile casing, in which the charge is initially rough-pressed or compacted externally of the projectile casing, thereafter inserted into the projectile casing, and subsequently finish-compacted. Subsequent to the rough-pressing of the charge, the charge is brought down to a temperature which is lower than that of the projectile casing, and wherein the charge is introduced into the projectile casing prior to equilibrating the temperature difference.

  • Patent number: 4632036
Abstract: A shaped charge with plane side surfaces, in which a booster charge is arranged above a main explosive charge, and which extends in a longitudinal direction intermediate the side surfaces. A detonation transmitter is arranged at one end or both ends of the booster charge, of which the direction of effect of which is oriented as an extension of the longitudinal direction of the booster charge. Upon the detonation of the booster charge, the detonation transmitter becomes operative and transmits the detonation to the booster charge of an adjacent positioned shaped charge. Smaller spaces or gaps between the booster charges are thereby bridged over.

  • Patent number: 4594946
Abstract: A shaped charge having plane sides surfaces, in which a booster charge is arranged above a main or primary explosive charge, and wherein the booster charge extends from one of the side surfaces to the oppositely located surface. The booster charge is constituted of an explosive whose detonation velocity is higher than that of the explosive material of the main explosive charge. Thus, when the booster charge is detonated from one side surface thereof, then the booster charge has detonated across the entire length which is present between the two side surfaces, prior to the detonation wave within the main explosive charge having traveled across the entire length thereof.
