Patent number: 11411770Abstract: Aspects of the subject disclosure relate to methods for detecting a link failure between the first network device and a destination node, receiving a data packet addressed to the destination node, and rewriting encapsulation information of the first data packet. Subsequent to rewriting the encapsulation information of the first data packet, the first data packet is forwarded to a second network device (e.g., using updated address information in the packet header), wherein the second network device is paired with the first network device in the virtual port channel. In certain aspects, systems and computer readable media are also provided.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 2019Date of Patent: August 9, 2022Assignee: CISCO TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: Kit Chiu Chu, Thomas J. Patent number: 11374859Abstract: A network appliance can queue a first packet and a second packet of a network traffic flow in an input queue of a match-action pipeline. The match-action pipeline can be implemented via a packet processing circuit of the network appliance and can be configured to process a plurality of network traffic flows. Submitting the first packet to the match-action pipeline can cause a first flow miss. The second packet can be moved to a burst queue of the network appliance and a match-action configuration can be generated based on the first packet. The second packet can be moved from the burst queue to the input queue after the match-action pipeline is configured with the match-action configuration. The match-action pipeline can then process the second packet.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2020Date of Patent: June 28, 2022Assignee: Pensando Systems, Inc.Inventors: Sameer Kittur Subrahmanya, Vijay Sampath, Sarat Kamisetty, Pirabhu Raman, Krishna Doddapaneni, Raghava Kodigenahalli Sivaramu

Patent number: 11281453Abstract: A network appliance running a first firmware may roll back to that first firmware in a hitless manner during an unsuccessful upgrade to a second firmware. Before the attempted upgrade, a first process in the first firmware is providing a service. The upgrade process is initiated to upgrade the network appliance from the first firmware to a second firmware. The upgrade process can include stopping communication via a data plane of the network appliance to the first process, and detecting an upgrade failure. The upgrade process is hitless because rolling back the upgrade process occurs without halting the first firmware. Rolling back the upgrade includes restoring communications via the data plane to the first process.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 2021Date of Patent: March 22, 2022Assignee: Pensando Systems, Inc.Inventors: Hareesh Ramachandran, Sarat Kamisetty, Kalyan Bade, Krishna Doddapaneni, Karthi Mohanraj

Patent number: 10581635Abstract: Aspects of the subject technology relate to solutions for transporting network traffic over an overlay network. A first tunnel endpoint in an overlay network can receive an encapsulated packet from a second tunnel endpoint. The encapsulated packet may have been encapsulated at the second tunnel endpoint based on another packet originating from a source host that is associated with the second tunnel endpoint. The encapsulated packet can include a source host address for the source host and a source tunnel endpoint address for the second tunnel endpoint. The first tunnel endpoint can then update a lookup table based on an association between the source host address and the source tunnel endpoint address.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2017Date of Patent: March 3, 2020Assignee: CISCO TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: Kit Chiu Chu, Thomas J. Patent number: 10320645Abstract: Systems, methods and computer-readable storage devices each provide, for a given flow entry in a flow table associated with a packet flow, a first atomic counter associated with a first color and a second atomic counter associated with a second color. The system, for a first coloring interval, marks traffic in the packet flow from a tenant to a fabric as the first color and increments the first atomic counter. At a conclusion of the first coloring interval and for a second coloring interval, the system marks the traffic in the packet flow from the tenant to the fabric as the second color and increments the second atomic counter. The system compares first packet counts associated with the first color at an ingress point with second packet counts associated with the first color at an egress point to the fabric.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2016Date of Patent: June 11, 2019Assignee: CISCO TECHNOLOGY, INC.Inventors: Nalinaksh Pai, Ravikanth Nasika, Krishna Doddapaneni, Azeem Suleman, Rohit Puri
