  • Publication number: 20100281222
Abstract: A cache system and a method for controlling the cache system are provided. The cache system includes a plurality of caches, a buffer module, and a migration selector. Each of the caches is accessed by a corresponding processor. Each of the caches includes a plurality of cache sets and each of the cache sets includes a plurality of cache lines. The buffer module is coupled to the caches for receiving and storing data evicted due to conflict miss from a source cache line of a source cache set of a source cache among the caches. The migration selector is coupled to the caches and the buffer module. The migration selector selects, from all the cache sets, a destination cache set of a destination cache among the caches according to a predetermined condition and causing the evicted data to be sent from the buffer module to the destination cache set.

  • Publication number: 20090040086
Abstract: A data weighted average (DWA) structure including a first delay unit, a binary to thermometer code converter, an adder, a second delay unit, a decoder, a barrel shifter, and a plurality of signal lines is provided. The first delay unit delays an input digital signal. The binary to thermometer code converter converts an output signal of the first delay unit into a thermal code. The second delay unit delays an output signal of the adder. The adder adds the input digital signal to an output signal of the second delay unit. The decoder decodes the output signal of the second delay unit. The barrel shifter generates an output signal from the thermal code in accordance with an output signal of the decoder. The signal lines route the output signal of the barrel shifter into two independent control signal groups.

  • Publication number: 20080126599
Abstract: An iSCSI target apparatus is disclosed. The iSCSI target apparatus includes a buffer device, a network interface, and a host storage hardware. The buffer device is for buffering at least a packet. The network interface is coupled to the buffer device for accessing the buffer device to transfer the packet between the network interface and the buffer device. The host storage hardware is coupled to the buffer device for accessing the buffer device to transfer the packet between the host storage hardware and the buffer device. Movement of the packet in the iSCSI target apparatus only occurs between the network interface and the buffer device and between the host storage hardware and the buffer device.

  • Patent number: 7042884
Abstract: The present invention discloses a network address forwarding table lookup apparatus and method for identifying a network address to determine a next hop address to which data packets having the network address should be forwarded. The apparatus comprises a memory storing a compression-trie forwarding table. The forwarding table has multiple level modules in a compression-trie structure. With the present invention, it is possible to achieve fast IP address lookup with a compact-sized compression-trie forwarding table.

  • Patent number: 6947419
Abstract: An apparatus distributing multicast messages with a multicast address among the ports of a network device on the basis of, inter alia, virtual local area network (VLAN) associations among the ports. One or more VLANs within the network device are assigned to the multicast address. The apparatus comprises a lookup engine, a forwarding engine coupled to the lookup engine, and a plurality of translation engines. The lookup engine needs to map the multicast address to a unique index value assigned to the multicast address and a bit string representing the group of multicast destination ports only once. The forwarding engine distributes the multicast messages and the unique index value to the group of multicast destination ports of the network device in accordance with the bit string. The translation engines are associated with each port of the network device respectively.

  • Publication number: 20020138648
Abstract: A hash compensation architecture and table lookup method is provided to efficiently lookup a valid directory entry in an address lookup table. Then, a compensation directory is implemented to store an address of a directory entry whenever an overflow occurs. When looking up an output port for an incoming packet, the lookups of the network address table and the compensation directory are performed in parallel, thereby to improve the efficiency of search. To improve the utilization of memory space, and ensure that the address of the entry indexed by the compensation directory will not affect the hash function search result, the invention further provides a translating/comparing mechanism for continuously searching a local best-fit directory entry from the outputs of the validity table and then provide for the compensation directory. Accordingly, the hash compensation mechanism and the lookup method can increase the hit rate of an address lookup for a network device and utilize the memory space more efficiently.
