  • Patent number: 6968737
Abstract: The present invention is a system and method for automated position location using RF signposting. The present invention comprises a plurality of transmitting units placed throughout a service area. Each transmitting unit repeatedly transmits a signal including position information related to a position associated with the transmitting unit. The position information may be an absolute position or an encoded position based on the structure of a building in which the transmitting unit is located. A receiving unit receives the signal transmitted from a transmitting unit and determines the position of the receiving unit, based on the received indication. The transmitting units are placed to provide uniform coverage of the service area, thus providing position location indoors and in urban areas where GPS does not function properly.

  • Patent number: 5943408
Abstract: A direct signaling system for providing system subscribers with the freedom to access service providers of their choice, regardless of their access network arrangement, with substantially minimum change to existing telecommunication software and architecture. The system provides a home interface unit and a call server that enables a subscriber to send signaling messages to and receive messages from the service providers of their choice. The home interface unit and call server execute state machines that provide specific details of system operation. The call server state machine triggers a state machine and thus operation of the service specific servers chosen by the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 5751719
Abstract: Methods and systems for controlling data transfer operations during a communication session between a transmitter and at least one receiver provide that data packets which have been stored at the receiver memory before a disconnect occurred remain stored in therein in the presence of the disconnect to avoid the need for retransmitting data packets upon re-establishment of a communication link. Data representative of those data packets already stored at the receiver memory is maintained for purposes of synchronizing data packet transmission from the transmitter for completing data file transfer. Data control instructions for implementing storage of data packets and tracking the progression of data packet transmissions when a disconnect occurs may suitably included in an existing protocol layer of a communication system or as an additional protocol layer added to the operating system of the communication system.
