  • Patent number: 5088707
Abstract: A method and apparatus for producing numerically correct partial stacks from individual leaves or sheets interfolded in a U-shaped or zigzag form on an interfolder. A double stream is formed from one or more streams of sheets by staggering or guiding together. This double stream is then continuously folded into zigzag form and piled up in a continuously growing stack, from which partial stacks of a specific size are separated. Gaps are formed in the streams of sheets which simplify the introduction of separating elements into the stack. For this purpose, sheets are removed from the streams of sheets and optionally placed accurately in position on successive sheets.

  • Patent number: 4917365
Abstract: There is provided a method and apparatus for dividing a moving stack of flexible workpieces, such as paper hand towels, face towels and the like, which are interfolded with one another in a zigzag manner, into partial stacks comprised of predetermined numbers of such workpieces, and for transferring such partial stacks to a depositing table. One of the material webs participating in the manufacture of the flexible workpieces is first marked, the spacing between the marks being adjusted to correspond with the number of towels required in the partial stack. Downstream of the folding device, the stack formed thereby is reversed upwardly and scanned by an optical detector which reads the marking and controls a separating blade, which is driven into the stack and lifted. The gap formed by the separating blade is engaged by lifting forks, which lift the partial stack to the level of the depositing table, where the partial stack is taken over by transport forks and guided across the depositing table.

  • Patent number: 4709606
Abstract: A plant for the production of stacks of intermeshed blanks of paper, cellse or the like folded together in a zig-zag fashion, in which two supply rolls are associated with the plant. Material webs on the rolls correspond to a multiple of two, four, or six or a higher even-numbered multiple of the width of the individual blanks. Longitudinal cutting stations divide the material webs into partial webs. The partial webs are opposite each other and run toward each other in the longitudinal direction of the webs and are fed to a stack-producing unit from two opposing sides. The stack-producing units of partial webs adjacent to each other are arranged in displaced relation to each other.

  • Patent number: 4642150
Abstract: Uniform lengths of elastic tape are secured to a continuously advancing mrial web, for example, to make baby diapers. First an intermittently advancing tape is repeatedly gathered, for example, by laying tape sections into a depression of defined dimensions, to relieve the tape sections of any stretching. This assures tape sections of uniform length which are then stretched, cut and applied to the material web, for example, by an adhesive bonding. The apparatus used for performing these steps has several cooperating rollers of which the first has the depressions in its surface and is rotated intermittently while the second roller is rotated continuously. The spacings between neighboring tape sections bonded to the web preferably have a uniform length.

  • Patent number: 4598441
Abstract: There is provided an apparatus for the manufacture of absorption pads for sorbing body fluid which is composed of two substantially identical so-called flake applicators each including a vacuum cylinder having shaped recesses which are so-called flake wheels. A first component layer of the absorption pad is produced on the first flake wheel and a second component layer is produced on the second flake wheel. The component layers produced on the first flake wheel are applied to the component layers produced on the second flake wheel by means of a transfer roll. A second transfer roll lifts the finished absorption pad from the second flake wheel and delivers the absorption pad by means of a vacuum belt to a machine for further processing.

  • Patent number: 4160894
Abstract: A desired pattern to be cut from a moving web of material by a focused laser beam is traced by eccentrically mounting the focal lens 3 in a rotatable carrier 4. The lens may also be radially displaceable (FIG. 3), inclined and rotatable (FIG. 4), doubly rotatable (FIG. 5), and/or the carrier 4 may be linearly displaceable (FIG. 6). By suitably and simultaneously controlling the various motion parameters, whose resultants are superimposed on one another, any desired cutting pattern can be traced. The movements are primarily uni-directional rather than oscillatory, which greatly simplifies the implementing hardware, and since all of the laser beam reflecting mirrors involved are fixedly mounted and move only in planes parallel to the web, the laser beam focal length always remains constant.

  • Patent number: 4049945
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting a predetermined pattern in a moving web of material, such as paper, cardboard or the like is disclosed wherein a laser beam is deflected by a series of pivotable mirrors. The pivoting of the mirrors is controlled so as to cause the laser beam to trace and cut a predetermined pattern. The laser beam moves only in rectilinear motion, as does the web of material to be cut. Since the directions of motions are not parallel, any pattern may be cut by controlling the relative speeds of the laser beam and the moving web of material.
