    Abstract: An apparatus for transmitting/receiving a signal in a communication system is provided. A Mobile Station (MS) spreads a transmission signal to generate a spreading signal, receives, from a Base Station (BS), information on a second spreading signal transmission region, extended from a first spreading signal transmission region, and maps the generated spreading signal to a subcarrier in the second spreading signal transmission region. A Base Station (BS) transmits information on a second spreading signal transmission region extended from a first spreading signal transmission region, for reception of a spreading signal, receives a spreading signal mapped to subcarriers over the second spreading signal transmission region, from an Mobile Station (MS), detects a spreading signal from the spread signal mapped to the subcarriers, and despreads the detected spreading signal to restore a transmission signal.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving MAP information in a communication system are provided. A base station acquires channel quality information of each mobile station, generates sub-MAPs using MAP information, to which at least one of a coding scheme, a modulation scheme and a repetition scheme is applied, separately for each mobile station according to the channel quality information, and transmits the generated sub-MAPs. A mobile station receives MAP information from the base station, detects a sub-MAP allocated to the mobile station from the received MAP information, and restores the detected sub-MAP to MAP information using at least one of a corresponding decoding scheme, demodulation scheme and repetition scheme corresponding to coding scheme, modulation scheme and repetition scheme applied in the base station, based on channel quality information of the mobile station. Accordingly, system overhead can be reduced.

For a particular base station, corresponding subcarrier bands are detected from each of the groups according to a predetermined sequence. A plurality of groups are generated by dividing each of the subbands in the frequency domain by the number of the symbols in the time domain. Subcarriers selected from the respective groups in each of the subbands are assigned as an AMC subchannel to which an AMC scheme is applied.
