  • Patent number: 11028669
Abstract: The tool assembly includes a main body and a bypass assembly. The main body has an off-set through bore and a cavity to fit the bypass assembly. The cavity includes a cavity surface, a first fluid bypass port, a second fluid bypass port, and a pressure inlet port. There is also a flow restrictor in fluid connection with the pressure inlet port. The bypass assembly includes a bypass housing, a pressure chamber, a piston with a first piston position and a second piston position, and a spring assembly. A pressure differential created by fluid flow through the pressure chamber and flow restrictor actuates the piston between the first piston position and the second piston position. The proportional flow through the tool assembly and through the bypass ports can now be controlled to perform the downhole work, including drilling and hole cleaning.

  • Patent number: 6550548
Abstract: A rotary steering apparatus including a drill string, a drill bit, a main body connected at one end to the drill string and at another end to the drill bit, a sleeve extending around the main body such that the main body is freely rotatable within the sleeve, and a locking member affixed to the main body and interactive with the sleeve. The sleeve has at least one protruding pad extending outwardly therefrom so as to bear against a well bore. The locking member serves to lock the sleeve relative to the main body such that the sleeve rotates correspondingly with a rotation of the main body. The locking member locks the sleeve onto the main body relative to an increased flow rate of fluid through the interior passageway of the main body. The locking member includes a flipper pivotally connected to the main body so as to extend into the longitudinal passageway and a spring resiliently connected to the flipper so as to urge the flipper into the interior passageway with a desired spring rate.

  • Patent number: 6296055
Abstract: A combination collar based retrievable drilling fluid filter and wiper with threaded ends for easy inclusion within the drill string, and a through bore for passage of drilling fluids and insertion of a wire line retrievable filter and wiper unit which is concentrically received and supported by the collar. The filter and wiper unit include a filter insert and an elongated wiper carrier. The filter insert is positioned at an upper end of the apparatus and is received by the elongated wiper carrier which is positioned at the lower end of the apparatus. The elongated wiper carrier includes numerous wiper brushes which help remove scale from the interior of the drill string when the filter and wiper unit is retrieved. Electrical wiring passes easily through the apparatus for operation of down hole instruments if desired.
