  • Patent number: 11224078
Abstract: A network device, in a first wireless network operated by a first network operator, receives a first location of a user equipment device (UE) and a second location of a Multi-Access Edge Computing data center (MEC) operated by a second network operator. The network devices performs at least one of: 1) determining a closest gateway or user plane function (UPF) to the MEC data center within the first wireless network; or 2) deploying a Virtual Network Function (VNF) in a particular hosting center that is close to the MEC. The network device sets up a connection between at least one of the determined closest gateway or UPF and the MEC, or the deployed VNF and the MEC, to enable the UE to access the MEC via the first wireless network.

  • Patent number: 10531309
Abstract: A wireless network optimizing node receives key performance indicators (KPIs) from a base station of a cell site providing wireless service within a geographic area, wherein the KPIs are associated with wireless communication between beams of an antenna array of the cell site and User Equipment. The node determines a current cell site capacity usage for the cell site based on current wireless network usage parameters received from the cell site and determines a need for an additional antenna array to provide adequate coverage and capacity for the geographic area based on the current cell site capacity usage and the first KPIs. The node determines an optimum location within the geographic area for adding the additional antenna array.

  • Patent number: 10117160
Abstract: When connected to an alternate network, a user device may search for a preferred network when the user device is actively transmitting traffic via the alternate network. As such, the user device may search for, and potentially locate, the preferred network faster than when the user device waits to search for the preferred network after becoming idle. While active, the user device may search for the preferred network for a relatively short duration, in order to limit the amount of time that data flow transmission is interrupted when searching for the preferred network. The user device may search for the preferred network based on a list of search parameters. The list of search parameters may be prioritized differently based on whether the user device is active or idle, and may be based on a quantity of times that the user device has searched for the preferred network.

  • Patent number: 9906992
Abstract: A computer device may include a memory configured to store instructions and a processor configured to execute the instructions to receive a handover request from a user equipment (UE) device via an evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG), wherein the handover request includes a request for a dual Packet Data Network (PDN) context and designate the UE device as having dual PDN context, based on the received handover request. The processor may be further configured to identify an Internet Protocol (IP) address for a Long Term Evolution (LTE) bearer associated with the UE device; create a PDN session to the ePDG using the IP address, based on the UE device having the dual PDN context; and send a Protocol Configuration Options (PCO) message to the UE device via the ePDG, wherein the PCO message includes an indication of dual PDN context support; and select to maintain the LTE bearer.

  • Patent number: 9516688
Abstract: A method includes attaching to a Packet Data Network (PDN) supporting services over a long term evolution (LTE) network to establish a first network connection. The method includes connecting to a wireless local area network, e.g. a WiFi network, to establish a second network connection. The method further includes launching an application accessing at least one of the supported services and receiving a request from the application to switch between the first and second network connections, according to the supported service, e.g. a policy associated with the service. Switching from the first network connection to the second network connections includes connecting to the PDN via an evolved Packet Data Gateway (ePDG).

  • Patent number: 8306532
Abstract: The techniques disclosed here enable a mobile station device having a plurality of subscriber identities to select an identity for registration with a network for wireless communications in a way that takes advantage of the most favorable roaming agreements between operators. The identity selection algorithm, for example, provides the flexibility to select amongst mobile station subscriber identities of 3GPP2 (1×RTT, EVDO) access technologies and 3GPP (LTE/GSM/UMTS) access technologies as well as specific operators' networks for domestic and international roaming. The exemplary algorithms allow the operator to optimize roaming agreements in different markets and maximize revenue from the roaming of its customers.

  • Patent number: 8204499
Abstract: A mobile station automatically determines a country in which mobile station is or will operate from readily available information, without direct assistance from the local wireless communication network. A multimode mobile station, for example, capable of both 3GPP and CDMA operation, is programmed to detect both MCC type system identifiers (from 3GPP protocol) and SID type system identifiers (from CDMA protocol) and map both types of identifiers to country identifications. However, at some locations, the SID may not uniquely map to a country. In this later case, an exemplary mobile station may identify the country by determining a local time (LTM) offset and mapping a combination of the SID obtained at the current location and the LTM offset to an identification of the country. The mobile station may use the country determination to help select a preferred network or to enable a location based device feature.
