Abstract: There is provided a method and an apparatus for searching rights objects stored in a portable storage device by using an object location data. The method includes: accessing the portable storage device; transmitting an object identifier to the portable storage device; receiving a location data of a first object searched based on the object identifier from the portable storage device; storing the location data of the first object with the object identifier; and transmitting the location data of the first object and an operation data representing operations to be performed with the first object to the portable storage device by using the location data of the first object.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing a secure clock having no internal power source are disclosed. The apparatus accesses a host device having an internal power source and transmits and receives data. The apparatus includes a clock control unit, a counter, and a time information unit. The clock control unit performs control such that the time information of the host device is acquired and a counter value corresponding to the acquired time information is set, when the clock control unit is connected to the host device and is supplied with power from the host device. The counter changes the set counter value in steps of a predetermined value at regular time intervals while the power is supplied. The time information unit updates current time information to correspond to the changed counter value while the power is supplied.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for managing a plurality of certificates are provided. The apparatus for managing a plurality of certificates includes a plurality of certificates, a certificate search table, a low-performance file system, and a verification module. The certificate search table includes information about the plurality of certificates. The low-performance file system extracts a corresponding certificate from among the plurality of certificates that are received from a host device, with reference to the certificate search table based on a root certificate authority ID and information about a public key of a certificate of a certificate authority that issued the host device certificate. The verification module uses the extracted certificate to verify the host device certificate.

Abstract: A host device and a method of implementing Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems in a low-efficiency storage device are provided. The host device includes a plurality of DRM systems and a DRM system-shared interface module. The DRM systems provide pieces of DRM-related data and data identifiers (IDs) which identify the pieces of data. The DRM system-shared interface module adds DRM system IDs, which are used to identify the DRM systems, to the pieces of data and the data IDs, and provides results, which are obtained by adding the DRM system IDs, to a low-efficiency storage device.

The access unit is a unit of data reading or data storage in the low-performance storage device.

Abstract: A digital rights management method and device are provided. To implement the DRM method and device, there is provided a master device including a storage module which stores a plurality of rights objects (ROs) having an inheritance structure, a detection module which detects the storage module for an RO needed for playing back a predetermined content object, a message generation module which, if the detection module fails to discover the RO needed for playing back the predetermined content object from the storage module, generates an RO request message, a device interface module which transmits the RO request message to a slave device and receives the RO needed for playing back the predetermined content object from the slave device, and a playback module which plays back the predetermined content object using at least one of the RO detected from the storage module and the RO received from the slave device.

The using method includes two devices communicating with each other, the first device having use permission of content objects and the second device including the content objects and corresponding rights objects; the first device searching for the content objects; and the first device using the content object that was found. The device includes an authentication module to authenticate another device; a security formation module to secure a connection for the other device; and a transceiving module which communicates a rights object for which the connection has been secured.

The device converts the format of the RO to communicate with the portable storage.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transmitting rights object information between a device and a portable storage are provided. The method includes transmitting a predetermined request from the device to the portable storage, generating a current permission status format including information of a rights object designated by the request, using the portable storage, and transmitting the current permission status format from the portable storage to the device. According to the method and apparatus, overhead is reduced and information transmission speed is increased when the rights object information is transmitted between the device and the portable storage.
