Abstract: A backlight unit, light guide panel, and liquid crystal display (LCD) apparatus having the same are provided. The backlight unit includes a light guide panel which comprises a plurality of patterns to scatter light forward on a bottom surface, and one or more fixing grooves on an edge area; a light source unit which is disposed on a side surface of the light guide panel, and emits light towards the light guide panel; and a supporting member which supports the light guide panel, and comprises one ore more fixing protrusions being inserted into the fixing groove, wherein the amount of patterns formed on a darkness occurring area adjacent to the fixing groove is increased compared to that on an adjacent area, and the amount of patterns formed on a bright line occurring area adjacent to the fixing groove is decreased compared to that on an adjacent area.

Abstract: A backlight unit of a display apparatus is provided. The backlight unit includes a display housing, a light source which is arranged along an inner circumference the display housing, a light guide plate through which light of the light source is transmitted, and which forms surface light, an optical sheet which is disposed on an upper side of the light guide plate to upwardly diffuse the light of the light source transmitted through the light guide plate, a plurality of first fixing units, each of which fix both the light guide plate and the optical sheet, a plurality of second fixing units which support only the light guide plate, and a support frame which is connected to the display housing to fix the optical sheet to the display housing provisionally, and has a window formed on a surface corresponding to the light guide plate to allow light to pass therethrough.

Abstract: A liquid crystal display device is provided. The liquid crystal display device includes at least one light-emitting surface mounted in a printed circuit board such that the light-emitting surface directs upward, and a side frame provided with a reflective surface to refract light from the light-emitting surface at a predetermined position and thus allow the light to be incident at a side of a light-guide portion. The light-emitting diode is arranged such that one side thereof contacts an inner surface of the side frame, thus minimizing a width of a bezel portion and preventing light loss.

Abstract: A display apparatus and a backlight unit for lighting the display apparatus are provided. The backlight unit includes a light guide plate, a plurality of light sources which project light onto a side surface of the light guide plate, and a light guide unit which is provided in each of at least two groups of light sources. The light guide unit is disposed toward the light guide plate in order to limit diffusion of a path of the light projected onto the side surface of the light guide plate. Accordingly, the light enters the light guide plate in a narrow path in a direction that is perpendicular to the side wall of the light guide plate, so that local dimming is achieved effectively.
