Abstract: An optical disc player for recording/reproducing data on an optical disc, including an optical pickup unit emitting a laser beam to the surface of the optical disc and extracting an RF signal corresponding to the recorded data, a signal size computing unit computing an envelope size of the RF signal, a tilt adjuster adjusting a tilt of the optical disc, and a controller for designating the tilt at a maximum envelope size as an optimal tilt, and controlling the tilt adjuster to change a present tilt based on the optimal tilt. Similarly, it is also possible to designate an optimal skew based on the skew at a maximum envelope size. Accordingly, embodiments of the present invention make it possible to obtain the optimal tilt/skew using the RF envelope.

  • Publication number: 20060140086
Abstract: An optical write and reproduce device is provided to determine an optimum write strategy from a broader selection of choices. The optical write and reproduce device has an optical pick-up part for emitting a light signal onto an optical disk to write and reproduce data, a memory part for storing thereto at least one write strategy indicating an emission type of the light signal, and a control part for determining write strategies, such as those written on the optical disk, and controlling the optical pick-up part to emit the light signal according to the determined write strategy. The control part can select one write strategy from the group including a write strategy reproduced from the optical disk, a write strategy set for each type of optical disk, a write strategy previously tuned for a same type of optical disk, and a default write strategy. Accordingly, an optimum write strategy for a presently-mounted optical disk can be quickly determined.

  • Publication number: 20060077819
Abstract: An apparatus and a method for optical disk recording includes a storing unit to store recording patterns according to an optical disk type and an optical disk manufacturer. A; recording unit reads basic information from a provided optical disk and records data according to a predetermined recording pattern. A MI extracting unit extracts the MI from the basic information and a controlling unit controls the recording unit to record data according to a recording pattern corresponding to the manufacturer of the provided optical disk based on the extracted MI when a recording pattern corresponding to the type of the inserted optical disk is not stored in the storing unit. Accordingly, the optical disk recording apparatus records data according to the optimal recording pattern when the recording pattern of the provided optical disk is not provided.

  • Publication number: 20060067177
Abstract: A tilt compensation method of an optical recording/reproducing apparatus calculates a center of curvature of a disk surface where an optical pick-up is located, and de-tracks the optical pick-up to align the center of curvature with a center of the optical pick-up such that a tilt compensation by mechanical structure can be implemented as well as tilt compensation by signal. Therefore, an optimal tilt compensation can be implemented, and quality of recording and reproducing signal can be improved.

  • Publication number: 20050276194
Abstract: An apparatus, medium, and method for compensating for a defect, based on a discrimination of whether the defect is in a recorded or unrecorded area in an optical recording medium. A method for compensating for the defect includes at least operations of referring to a predetermined information area of a loaded disk to determine a disk state, referring to a predetermined area having a recording information to determine a positional information with respect to recorded areas and unrecorded areas, and storing the positional information, when it is determined that the disk has data stored therein, identifying a position where a defect is detected, referring to the positional information when the defect is detected while data is recorded and reproduced, and determining which of recorded or unrecorded areas corresponds to the position where the defect is detected, and carrying out a predetermined method for compensating the defect suitable for the corresponding area.

  • Publication number: 20050276196
Abstract: An optical disc device capable of recording/reproducing data in an optical disc. The optical disc device includes an optical pickup unit for scanning a laser signal onto a specified area of an optical disc, a skew adjustment unit for changing a skew of the optical pickup unit, a signal detection unit for detecting a signal being reproduced from the optical disc by the laser signal, a jitter detection unit for calculating a jitter of the signal detected by the signal detection unit, and a control unit for controlling the skew adjustment unit to compensate for the skew of the optical pickup unit so that the compensated skew of the optical pickup unit becomes the skew that corresponds to the minimum jitter. The optical disc device can minimize a jitter by compensating for the skew so that the skew is in an optimum state.
