  • Patent number: 5536391
Abstract: This invention discloses an enhanced process for the hydroprocessing of a feed, the feed comprising a highly aromatic refinery distillate stream boiling in the range between 300.degree. and 900.degree. F. The feed is separated into light and heavy streams such that the light stream contains from 0.1 to 5 wt. % dibenzothiophene, substituted dibenzothiophenes, and heavier polycyclic thiophenes. The lighter stream is hydrotreated at pressures from 300.degree. to 1000.degree. F. with a commercial catalyst having a hydrogenation component. The heavier stream is treated in the presence of hydrogen at higher pressure, from 600 to 2000 psig with a catalyst comprising active material having a Constraint Index of less than 2 in addition to a hydrogenation component in order to achieve over 35% conversion of material boiling above 630.degree. F. The active material of the catalyst is a highly siliceous zeolite or an acidic amorphous silica-alumina material.

  • Patent number: 5498812
Abstract: The present invention provides a hydrogenation process for producing diamondoid compounds from a petroleum feedstream containing multiple ring naphthenes comprising the steps of:(a) converting multiple ring naphthenes to alkyl substituted adamantanes in the presence of a zeolite catalyst having a Constraint Index of less than 1 in a first stage to form an intermediate product stream; and(b) selectively cracking non-diamondoid components of said intermediate product stream in the presence of a zeolite having a CI less than or equal to 2 to evolve a final product stream enriched in alkyl substituted adamantanes.

  • Patent number: 5302769
Abstract: A polycyclic aromatic is contacted with an alkyl-substituted single ring aromatic, such as toluene, o-, m- or p-xylene or mesitylene, over a catalyst comprising a zeolite, such as zeolite beta, USY or ZSM-5 to alkylate the polycyclic aromatic. The polycyclic aromatic can be a fused polynuclear aromatic, e.g. phenanthrene, or an assembly of two or more cyclic systems, e.g. biphenyl. The polycyclic aromatic can also include carbocyclic systems such as fluorene and naphthalene or heterocyclic systems such as benzothiophene and dibenzothiophene. The polycyclic aromatic can be derived from a cycle oil, coker gas oil, extract of lubricant solvent refining or crude distillate fraction. The transalkylating agent can be derived from a reformate, pyrolysis gasoline or coker naphtha.

  • Patent number: 4590996
Abstract: The accumulation of inorganic mineral scale such as barium sulfate in oil field formations and/or production equipment is inhibited by adding to formation fluid or produced fluid a scale formation inhibitory amount of a polyalkoxy sulfonate of the general formula(RO[R'O].sub.x (CH.sub.2).sub.y SO.sub.3).sub.z Mwherein R is a hydrophobe, R'O is a C.sub.2 H.sub.4 O or a C.sub.3 H.sub.6 O group or some combination thereof, M is a monovalent or divalet cation, x is 2 to 10, y is 0 to about 4 and z is 1 or 2.
