Abstract: A handheld appliance for emitting steam to treat a fabric has a housing, a water reservoir, a pump, and a steam generator operatively connected to the pump. The housing has an annular steam emitting head having a hole passing through the steam head. The steam head has an outlet with a shape surrounding the hole so that steam inside the steam head is emitted out of the steam head through the outlet around the hole. A handheld appliance for emitting steam to treat a fabric also has a housing having a water reservoir, a pump, a steam generator operatively connected to the pump, and an outlet. The steam generator forms a steam path that has a first layer that extends from an inlet into the steam generator on a first side of a heater to a second layer that is on a second side of the heater opposite to the first layer.

Abstract: A hair curling roller system having a plurality of post members having substantially the same outer diameter for heating the rollers and a plurality of rollers having inner cavities for mounting the rollers on the posts with such inner cavities having substantially the same inner diameters. There are at least two groups of the rollers, with the outer diameter of the rollers of one group being larger than the outer diameter of the rollers of the other group. Each of the curling rollers includes an interior core member having an opening in one lateral end of the core member and longitudinally extending within the core member; this core member is formed of a material highly conductive of heat. An elongated metal sleeve is positioned with the opening of the core member of each roller and is attached to the inside of such core member.

Abstract: An electric curling iron includes an electrically heated cylinder having an exterior surface around which hair is wrapped for applying heat to the hair being curled and a partial cylindrical clamp member pivotally movable toward and away from the cylinder for clamping the hair against the cylinder. Rotation of the curling iron during use is facilitated by a main handle and clamp handle coupled to the heated cylinder and clamp member, respectively. The main handle and clamp handle are elongated members grippable in one hand of the user of the iron and are freely rotatable relative to the cylinder and clamp member so as to enable the cylinder and clamp member to be rotated within the hand of the user while hair is clamped between the clamp member and cylinder. The main and clamp handle are each provided with a locking mechanism selectively movable between a first position locking the respective handles against rotation and a second position wherein the respective handles are free to rotate.

Abstract: An improved hair curling iron is disclosed having a heat conductive cylinder with a flocked outer surface and a hollow center, a handle joined to the cylinder, a heating element disposed within the hollow center of the cylinder, an electrical mechanism activating the heating element when connected to a source of electrical power, and a clamp having a partial cylindrical section with a flocked inner surface which is biased against the flocked outer surface of the cylinder by a spring.

Abstract: In combination with an electrical appliance, an automatic warning circuit to warn a user of an electrical hazard wherein the warning circuit comprises a timing circuit responsive to turn-off of the electrical appliance for generating a triggering signal after lapse of a predetermined time period after turn-off thereby to energize an audible alarm. The timing circuit and alarm are useful for warning a user of the appliance of an electrical safety hazard brought out by the appliance being connected to a power line while not being used.

Abstract: A heated curling brush with retractable teeth for use in curling the hair. The curling brush includes inner and outer barrels with toothed comb members of a sufficient size for properly curling the hair and pivotally mounted within longitudinal slots in the inner barrel so that the teeth are capable of extending outwardly through apertures in the outer barrel. A source of heat is supplied through the inner barrel. Rotation of the outer barrel member results in the teeth of the comb members moving between an extended position in which each tooth extends perpendicularly to the exterior of the outer barrel for use in curling the hair and a retracted position within transverse recesses in the inner barrel for enabling the brush to be easily withdrawn from the hair. As the teeth are drawn into their retracted position, such action simultaneously serves to comb the hair thereby helping to facilitate the withdrawal of the brush.
