Patent number: 9421722Abstract: A system and method of making an open-ended, reinforced, layered belt having a profile layer, a top layer material, and tensile cords fully encapsulated there between. The method includes engaging portion of the profile layer on a rotatable cylindrical mandrel with an engaging roller, disengaging with a take-off roller, and applying and fusing the cords to the profile layer at a desired cord spacing there between. The cord may be fused by melting the profile layer surface with a heated plow and/or with heated cord. The cord is then covered with the top layer material in a lamination step involving heating to melt at least a portion of the top layer and pressing it to fuse it to the reinforced profile layer. Lamination may be done downstream or directly on the mandrel.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2014Date of Patent: August 23, 2016Assignee: GATES CORPORATIONInventors: John Graeme Knox, Lambert Pasch

Patent number: 9169896Abstract: A system, method and apparatus for making endless belts having a profile layer, a fully embedded, helically wound, cord layer, and a top layer. The apparatus has a rotatable mandrel with a profile complementary to the belt profile, two or one engagement rolls adjacent the mandrel to maintain forced, wrapped engagement of the profile layer on a portion thereof; a cord applicator which may include a heated blade that plows a groove in the profile layer into which the cord is laid and fused thereto. A laminator applies the top layer onto the reinforced carcass. A system of buffer rolls handles the loose portion of the profile layer or carcass guiding it.Type: GrantFiled: December 14, 2012Date of Patent: October 27, 2015Assignee: GATES CORPORATIONInventors: Lambert Pasch, John Graeme Knox

Patent number: 9091324Abstract: A method of making a belt including the steps of: (a) helically wrapping a fabric strip of predetermined width on a mandrel at a first helix angle; (b) helically winding a tensile cord onto the mandrel over the fabric at a second helix angle less than the first helix angle; (c) wrapping a sheet or a strip of elastomer material around the mandrel over the tensile cord; and (d) curing the elastomer material under pressure to form a belt sleeve. The mandrel may be grooved for making toothed belts. The fabric strip may be preformed. A resulting toothed belt has a fabric seam spanning several teeth and having a helix angle. The seam may be joined.Type: GrantFiled: April 22, 2013Date of Patent: July 28, 2015Assignee: Gates CorporationInventor: Lambert Pasch

Patent number: 4213814Abstract: A method and apparatus for molding elastomeric stock, the method comprising interposing an apertured, heat-resistant, flexible, insulation plate between a heated mold and the discharge portion of an elastomeric stock injection unit such that respective mold cavities provided in the mold are aligned with respective apertures in the insulation plate which intercommunicate the mold cavities with an internal discharge chamber in the injection unit. The mold and injection unit are moved relative to one another such that each presses against the other through the intermediary of the insulation plate, thereby permitting expulsion and transferring of a portion of elastomeric stock from the injection unit into the mold cavities to be cured, an excess portion of elastomeric stock remaining in the injection unit being prevented from undergoing curing by means of the presence of the insulation plate.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 1975Date of Patent: July 22, 1980Assignee: Uniroyal A.G.Inventors: Lambert Pasch, Heinz Wagemann

Patent number: 4140470Abstract: Apparatus for molding elastomeric articles is disclosed, the apparatus including an injection unit having an open-ended chamber in which elastomeric stock is disposable and from which such stock can be expelled, a multi-cavity mold having cavities aligned with corresponding ones of the apertures of the end plate, a device for moving the injection unit and mold relative to one another to engage the mold with the end plate, and a pneumatic venting system for evacuating fluid entrapped in each of the mold cavities preparatory to filling the latter with elastomeric stock from the injection unit. The foregoing abstract is neither intended to define the invention disclosed in the specification, nor is it intended to limit the scope of the invention in any way.Type: GrantFiled: April 1, 1977Date of Patent: February 20, 1979Assignee: Uniroyal AktiengesselschaftInventors: Lambert Pasch, Heinz Wagemann
