  • Patent number: 7640019
Abstract: A communications system dynamically reconfigurable for RF bandwidth and modulation protocols is disclosed. A server comprises one or more radio head interface modules and a call processing software module adapted to communicate with each other. The call processing software is adapted to perform modulation and demodulation of voice and data streams using one or more air interface protocols. A radio head unit coupled to the radio head interface module communicates with one or more subscriber units. The radio head interface module receives either air interface protocol configuration information, or RF signal bandwidth allocation information, from the call processing software module for one or more communication channels, the information providing a timing trigger and a protocol or bandwidth for one or more communication channels. The radio head interface module reconfigures itself for one or more communications channels, based on the change instructed by the call processing software.

  • Patent number: 6360075
Abstract: A transmission system (10). The transmission system communicates data to a number of subscribers (14a, 14b). The transmission system includes a transceiver (12) that has a number of highly directional antennas (28). A number of digital repeaters (16a, 16b, 16c) are disposed in a geographic region serviced by the transceiver. The repeaters include a sectorized antenna that communicates with subscribers in a number of sectors of the geographic region of the repeater. The repeater also includes an upstream demodulator/modulator circuit (19). The upstream demodulator/modulator circuit demodulates data from signals from subscribers that were modulated with a first modulation technique, and generates a re-modulated signal with the data using a second modulation technique.

  • Patent number: 6151480
Abstract: A system for distributing RF signals to users over power lines in a structure. The system includes a head end unit that receives RF signals in a first frequency range to be distributed to users in the structure. The head end unit is coupled to the power lines of the structure. RF signals are transmitted over the power lines in a second frequency range. The head end unit includes a frequency converter that translates RF signals between the first frequency range and the second frequency range. The system also includes a number of remote units. The remote units are coupled to the power lines and disposed throughout the structure to provide RF coverage within the structure. The remote units include frequency converters that convert signals between the first and second frequency ranges. Further, an antenna is coupled to each remote unit to transmit signals to and receive signals from the users in the first frequency range.

  • Patent number: RE40564
Abstract: A method and apparatus for sectorizing coverage of a cellular communications area includes providing a remote unit having microcell antenna units. Each microcell antenna unit is configured to cover a particular sector. The remote unit is connected to a sectorized base station unit which is connected to a mobile telecommunications switching office. Separate digitized streams representative of telephone signals received from the mobile telecommunications switching office are generated corresponding to the microcell antenna units and the separate digitized streams are multiplexed and transmitted to the remote unit. The remote unit demultiplexes the multiplexed digitized streams into the separate digitized streams corresponding to the microcell antenna units and the separate digitized streams are converted to RF signals for coverage of a particular sector by the corresponding microcell antenna unit.
