  • Patent number: 9218801
Abstract: A method of controlling sounds associated with a vehicle is provided. The method includes performing on a processor, monitoring powertrain data; determining a powertrain transition event based on the powertrain data; and selectively controlling the generation of one or more tones based on the powertrain transition event.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 29, 2010
Date of Patent: December 22, 2015
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC
Inventors: Scott M. Reilly, Timothy R. Bohn, Larry G. Hartleip
  • Patent number: 8938079
Abstract: Engine sound enhancement (ESE) for a vehicle includes determining a current rate of change (ROC) in a position of an acceleration device of the vehicle from sensor data received from at least one sensor in communication with the acceleration device and calculating an ESE value based on the current ROC in the position of the acceleration device. The ESE value reflects an intensity and tone quality of at least one of the exhaust and the engine of the vehicle. The ESE also includes receiving a current RPM value, comparing the RPM value and the ROC in the position of the acceleration device to corresponding pre-defined threshold values, the pre-defined threshold values mapped to ESE tunings, and activating one of the ESE tunings when each of the current RPM value and the current ROC in the position of the acceleration device meets a corresponding pre-defined threshold value.

Date of Patent: January 20, 2015
Assignee: GM Global Technology Operations LLC
Inventors: Frank C. Valeri, Scott M. Reilly, Larry G. Hartleip, William L. Hull, Stephane Richter, John Randall Yost
  • Publication number: 20130145882
Abstract: A manual transmission shifter attachment arrangement which provides vibration isolation and precise shifting feel. A fore-aft movable attachment constrains movement of the shifter housing in all directions except a fore-aft direction. A fore-aft linkage causes the shifter housing to move in unison with the driveline in the fore-aft direction and reacts only to applied forces between the driveline and the shifter housing parallel to the fore-aft direction.

  • Patent number: 7395732
Abstract: A shifter rod assembly used in automotive vehicles extends between a manual shifter assembly having a manual shift lever and a transmission spaced from the manual shift lever. Large tolerance universal joints with play between the components thereof connect the shifter rod assembly to the manual shifter assembly and to the transmission. In order to eliminate rattle noise in the universal joints, the universal joints are each encased in a layer of elastomer. A preferred elastomer is silicone elastomer can be applied in liquid form, cures at room temperature and maintains integrity at temperatures in a range of about 200° F. to 240° F.
