  • Publication number: 20070270754
Abstract: A tip shield of a catheter assembly has a resilient clip compartment, which may become blood-filled during use of the catheter assembly. The resilient clip inside the compartment is released upon withdrawal of the needle of the catheter assembly to disengage the catheter hub from the tip shield. The resilient clip also prevents re-exposure of the needle after being withdrawn into the tip shield. The blood-filled compartment may potentially leak or splash through an opening from the compartment when the resilient clip is released. A covering blocks the opening from the tip shield to minimize the risk of blood exposure. In addition, the covering minimizes the risk of premature release of the resilient clip and re-exposure of the needle.

  • Publication number: 20050231833
Abstract: A passive optical component directs first electromagnetic radiation incident on the component in a first direction and second electromagnetic radiation incident on the component in a second direction to a mutual direction. The optical component comprises an interacting surface which is arranged to interact with said first and second electromagnetic radiation. The interacting surface comprises first portions, each having a surface extending in a third direction, which is essentially perpendicular to the mutual direction, and second portions, each having a surface extending in a fourth direction. The optical component reflects essentially all the first electromagnetic radiation and transmits at least a significant portion of the second electromagnetic radiation for directing the first and the second electromagnetic radiation to a mutual direction. An optical system and a method using the passive optical component are also shown.

  • Publication number: 20020158016
Abstract: A modular separation system wherein a separation unit is separate from a mounting device that accommodates the separation unit in a separation apparatus. The mounting device is an integral part of the separation apparatus. A method for fluid-fluid extraction of an analyte from a sample fluid to a receiving fluid in a separation apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20010019771
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for the preparation of an insulated soft magnetic powder comprising the steps of mixing particles of a soft magnetic iron base powder with an acidic, aqueous insulating-layer forming solution, in which MgO has been dissolved; and drying the obtained mixture to obtain an electrically insulating Mg containing layer on the particle surfaces. The invention also concerns the powder per se as well as compressed soft magnetic powder cores prepared from the powder.

  • Patent number: 4468329
Abstract: Apparatus for hemofiltration is disclosed, including a reverse osmosis module for purifying an impure supply of water, a container for adding concentrate thereto and preparing a replacement liquid, a semipermeable hemofiltration membrane filter for filtering the supply of blood and the replacement liquid in order to produce an ultrafiltrate stream and a filtered blood stream from the supply of blood and a filtrate stream from the replacement liquid so that the filtered blood and filtrate streams can be mixed and returned to the patient.

  • Patent number: 4313831
Abstract: Processes and apparatus for the removal of waste metabolites from metabolite-containing solutions are disclosed. The disclosed processes include alternatively adsorbing and desorbing the metabolites on a pair of adsorbent-containing columns, each column being maintained at a reduced temperature during adsorption and at an elevated temperature during desorption, with the columns being flushed subsequent to desorption and prior to their re-use for adsorption thereon.
