  • Patent number: 5730100
Abstract: Arrangement (2) for fuel injection and ignition of a fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber (6) in a cylinder (10) provided with a reciprocating piston (8) in a combustion engine. The arrangement includes a tubular retaining body (32) which constitutes an insulator and which is fastenable in the engine cylinder head (14), and a tubular valve housing (44) which runs axially through the retaining body and which has running through it a valve needle (48) with central fuel supply passage (50), and the end (44) of the valve housing (44) in the combustion chamber constitutes a free end provided with a valve seat (52) which accommodates a valve element (54) which is fastened in the end of the valve needle and can be applied to the seat. The valve housing (44), the valve needle (48) and the valve element (54) form together a central electrode in a single-pole ignition plug, the second electrode of which is an electrode (30) firmly attached to the piston (8) or to the cylinder (10).

  • Patent number: 5611301
Abstract: The invention relates to an engine with a constructional design and material composition for optimum thermal conductivity and vibration damping functions. The invention consists in the cylinder section (11) surrounding the combustion chamber being made of a light metal alloy and in the lower part of the cylinder section being connected to a crankcase section (13) with integral lateral walls (21,22) which enclose the cylinder section (11) with an air gap, and the crankcase section is made of a material with higher density than the cylinder section, preferably cast iron.

  • Patent number: 5562069
Abstract: Method and adjusting device for varying the compression of an internal combustion engine with a cylinder receiving section (2) which is pivotably mounted in the crankcase section (4) of the engine supporting the crankshaft, about a tilting shaft bearing (8) on one side of the engine, to effect a variation in the engine compression. A tilting mechanism (70) acting between the crankcase section and the cylinder receiving section is arranged on the side of the engine opposite the tilting shaft bearing (8), enabling the distance between the two engine parts to be varied. A hydraulic adjusting device (76, 78) is connected to the tilting mechanism (70) for adjusting the lateral tilting of the cylinder receiving section (2) relative to the crankcase section (4).

  • Patent number: 5443043
Abstract: An internal combustion engine with variable compression which includes a cylinder receiving section which is tiltably mounted to a crankcase section (4) of the engine, and a crankshaft (12) which is mounted in the crankcase section via crankshaft bearings (90) arranged in the lower region of the crankcase section (4). The crankshaft bearings incorporate bearing caps (102) which constitute continuous stiffening transverse connecting elements between the lower later parts (103,106) of the crankcase section. These transversely connecting bearing caps rest at their outer ends (108, 110) against internal surface areas in the lower lateral parts (104, 106) of the crankcase section on both sides of the engine. The bearing caps (12) are secured in the crankcase section (40) not only by means of vertical crankshaft bearing screws (112, 114) but also by means of screwed joints (166, 118, 120) which connect the lower lateral parts to the outer ends (108, 110) of the bearing caps.

  • Patent number: 5435275
Abstract: An arrangement for distribution of cooling liquid in the cooling liquid jacket in an internal combustion engine having cylinders disposed in-line in the cylinder block or in a bank of cylinders of the engine. The liquid jacket includes a liquid inlet chamber at one end of the row of cylinders and a liquid outlet chamber at the same end or at the opposite end of the row of cylinders and, in the cylinder block or bank of cylinders with associated cylinder head, mutually interconnected cooling liquid spaces and ducts which communicate with those chambers. In the lower portion of the cooling jacket, a liquid distribution pipe running along the row of cylinders is inserted at one side of the row of cylinders and has at one end a liquid inlet which communicates with the liquid inlet chamber.

  • Patent number: 5329893
Abstract: An internal combustion engine (10) is designed with a cylinder section (11) which is pivoted on a crankcase section (13) to provide different compression ratios. The crankcase section (13) is provided with raised lateral walls (21, 22, 24, 25) with upper surfaces (82-85), which lie in the same plane and thereby allow simple assembly of a seal (34) between the cylinder section (11) and crankcase section (13). The lateral walls (21, 22, 24, 25) also enable auxiliary devices for the engine to be easily secured without having to allow for the mobility of the cylinder section (11) relative to the crankcase section (13).

  • Patent number: 4889087
Abstract: A tensioning arrangement for a chain incorporated in a transmission and intended to be driven in an endless path. The tensioning arrangement comprises a spring element that acts on a piston to move it outwards to tension the chain when the transmission is not in operation. The tensioning arrangement is also designed with a space that is supplied with oil when the transmission is in operation, in which connection the oil imparts to the piston a limited inward movement to slacken the chain.

  • Patent number: 4653458
Abstract: The invention relates to an arrangement for enabling the connection of a position sensing transducer to a machine such that the transducer is not subjected to high temperatures or dirt. In accordance with the invention the transducer is mounted on the outside of a housing in which there is mounted a rotatable means which extends outside the housing to operate a drive means for driving auxiliary equipment. The invention is distinguished in that the position sensing transducer includes a disc fixed to the drive means, said disc co-acting in non-contacting relationship with a transducer mounted on the outside of the housing for indicating the angular positions of the disc, and in that the drive means and housing include portions concentrically disposed to form a labyrinth seal to a space which accommodates the position sensing transducer.
