  • Patent number: 5133473
Abstract: Plastic container closures which are preferably injection molded through a centrally placed ingot are disclosed. The closures include a cover panel with a circumferential rim and a pouring opening which corresponds to only a portion of the area of the cover panel. The closure also includes an integral grip and a tearing denotation provided by a reduced thickness groove in the cover panel around the periphery of the portion of the cover panel which is to be removed and in which that groove extends from a point in the proximity of the circumferential rim towards a point displaced from the center of the cover panel at a location beyond the center with respect to the first point, and in which the reduced thickness groove is interrupted to provide a hinge for the portion of the cover panel to be removed subsequent to opening.

  • Patent number: 5114507
Abstract: A cover device for a packaging container usable as a reclosable closure, comprising an outer layer provided with an easy opening device which has a grip and at least a tearing denotation extending circumferentially around the cover device. Additionally, the inner layer is attached to the outer layer at least at both sides of said tearing denotation. The inner layer is covered only partially by the outer layer, leaving a central portion of the inner layer exposed to the environment.A grip in the shape of a pull-ring is arranged in said central portion, and a strip-shaped connection portion connects the ring to a relatively narrow strip-shaped part of the outer layer, said part being removable together with the inner layer along a line defined by said circumferential tearing denotation. Of course, such tearing and removing facility necessitates that the tearing strength of the inner layer is lower than the weld strength and that the tearing denotation has a proper strength and is well-defined.

  • Patent number: 4961511
Abstract: A closure or closure element manufactured by injection moulding and provided with an easy opening device having a pull-ring and a tearing strip emerging therefrom. The tearing strip forms and defines a region which is concave. A recess is arranged cross-wise in a major part of an inlet to the concave region. The recess can be formed by the injected molten material having been diverted and delayed when entering the concave region. The delay enables the concave region and the portion of the tearing strip defining it to be formed substantially simultaneously. The orientation of the material at the junction of the tearing strip and the concave region is also diverted.

  • Patent number: 4944426
Abstract: An easy opening arrangement for a closure of a packaging container. The easy opening arrangement has a grip, preferably shaped as a ring, and from said grip there emanates tearing denotations in a removable part of the closure.Via a first connection portion said grip is connected to said emanating tearing denotations. The arrangement includes at least one further connection portion to the closure part. Said so called further connection portion maintains a substantial portion of the grip at a certain distance from the closure part, such that said substantial portion is easy grippable.

  • Patent number: 4917259
Abstract: Through a centrally placed ingot there is formed an injection moulded cover or end closure for a packaging container comprising at least an outer layer and an easy opening device formed therein, the device having a grip and a tearing denotation starting therefrom. The tearing device includes a first tearing denotation which merges into a circumferential tearing denotation extending inwardly adjacent the periphery of the outer layer and a second tearing denotation spaced from said first tearing denotation and spaced inwardly of said circumferential tearing denotation and extending in a generally spiral shaped path. These tearing denotations, together with a blind groove, define a wide material flow region and several material flow passages through which injected material will flow when exiting the centrally placed ingot.

  • Patent number: 4913306
Abstract: An end closure for a packaging container, where the end closure has a central panel and a circumferential rim for being attached to a wall of a packaging container for placing the panel countersunk in the container.A tearing denotation is arranged in the panel and merges into a further tearing denotation extending the whole way around the panel close to the rim.A low ledge is arranged at the side of the panel opposite to the rim for maintaining an easily flexible material covering the underside of the end closure and at least part of the rim outer side thereof at a non-welding distance at both sides of the tearing denotation, i.e. at such a distance that the temperature and pressure is insufficient for heat sealing or welding of thermoplastics material on the flexible material and/or the panel.

  • Patent number: 4056221
Abstract: A blank and a container formed from the blank is disclosed which comprises a first member having a first thickness which includes a bottom field and a plurality of side fields which project upwardly from the bottom field to define a cavity when the blank is formed into a container. The side fields include side edges which define cut-out portions between adjacent side edges. A second member having a second thickness less than the first thickness is provided and arranged in overlying relation to the first member and extends beyond the side edges of the side fields to completely fill the cut-out portions. The portion of the second member that fills the cut-out portions can be folded upon itself to define sealing flap means when the blank is formed into a container, the sealing flap means being operative to seal adjacent side fields together along their side edges.
