  • Patent number: 5342296
Abstract: A method for inserting a drain catheter into an antrum includes the steps of securing a needle holder to the trailing end of a needle, positioning a hammer in predetermined spaced relation to the trailing end of the needle holder, loading a bias member so that it urges the hammer to strike the needle holder, restraining the hammer to maintain the load on the hammer, and quickly releasing the hammer and allowing it to strike the needle holder so that the leading end of the needle punctures the bone of the antrum wall. A first dampening member decelerates the hammer at the end of its displacement, and a second dampening member decelerates the needle and needle holder at the end of their joint displacement. A rigid tube is disposed in ensleeving relation to the needle so that the leading end of the tube is positioned in predetermined proximity to the point of the needle so that the leading end of the tube is carried into the antrum when the needle point punctures the antrum wall.

  • Patent number: 5147293
Abstract: Apparatus (2) for liquid flushing of body cavities and/or supplying an active substance to the body cavities includes a piston/cylinder device (3), a device (9,10) for manual actuation of the piston (8) and a nozzle (4) projecting from the piston/cylinder device (3) adapted for insertion of the free end (12) of the nozzle in the body cavity. The nozzle (4) is formed with two separated channels (5,6) each terminating at an outer end in a free end of the nozzle, one of the channels (6) extending in the wall of the cylinder (7) and an inner end terminating at the end of the cylinder immersed in the liquid (b) in a receptacle (1) containing the liquid and connected to the piston/cylinder device, the other channel (5) having an inner end communicating with a space (A) above the liquid in the container (1) and a piston rod (9) having a return spring (11).

  • Patent number: 5139502
Abstract: A drainage tube (1) for drainage of sinus maxillaris consists of a middle portion (1b) having an exterior dimension adapted to a hole made in the bone wall between nasal cavity and sinus maxillaris, an extendible end portion preferably outwardly foldable legs (6) and an opposite end portion (2) widened compared with the middle portion (1b), preferably a collar. For making the hole in the bone wall is developed a tube-formed drill, which in its free end edge is formed with a toothed cutter, and for the insertion of the drainage tube in position between nasal cavity and sinus maxillaris is developed a particular insertion instrument.

  • Patent number: 4606346
Abstract: An intranasal device to be used in combination with septum operations consists of a breathing channel and an inflatable balloon positioned in side by side relation to one another on one side of a thin plate which is shaped to conform to the interior anatomy of the nasal cavity. The balloon is connected to a pressure balancing device for controlling the pressure in the balloon, and valve means are provided for setting a maximum allowable pressure in the balloon.
