  • Patent number: 5405293
Abstract: A device for transmitting torque between two rotatable shaft members (2, 3) in a stationary housing (1) contains a number of alternate clutch discs (10, 11) engageable to counteract differential rotational speed between the two shaft members, to which they are connected, a hydraulic clutch piston (12) to engage the clutch discs and a hydraulic pump arrangement (15-24) driven by the speed differential between the two shaft members. An annular control piston (15) is axially movably arranged in the housing and is in contact with control pins (17), which are rotatable together with one of the shaft members (3) and cooperate with a cam curve (20) in the other shaft member (2) in such a way that the control pins and thus the control piston are imparted an oscillating movement with a frequency directly proportional to the rotational speed differential between the two shaft members.

  • Patent number: 5234482
Abstract: A retarding valve at a single-tower air drier for obtaining a controlled time for the flow of regenerating air from an air tank to a desiccant cartridge has a movable valve stem (7), which is provided with a piston (14) having a slightly smaller diameter than a chamber (13), in which it is movable in hydraulic oil (15), so that a narrow circumferential slit for the oil is formed. The valve stem with its piston is biased by a spring (16) from a position--at the beginning of each regenerating cycle--permitting flow through the valve to a position closing off flow through the valve.

  • Patent number: 5103944
Abstract: A wedge-type actuator for actuating drum brakes including guide rollers positioned between the wedge and a plunger that contacts the leading brake shoe. The guide rollers are carried between a guiding surface on the wedge and a guiding surface in the housing, to take up the reaction forces caused by the larger actuation forces needed to operate the trailing brake shoe. The disclosed arrangement provides more even braking forces, and thereby results in more even brake shoe wear.

  • Patent number: 5025900
Abstract: A sealing arrangement, particularly for a rail vehicle slack adjuster, between a generally tubular housing (7) and a rod (1), which is axially and rotatably movable relative thereto, has a cup (10) engaging the rod with a sealing ring (11) so as to be movable with the rod. This cup extends along the rod over the free end of the housing so as to form a type of labyrinth sealing. The cup is preferably provided with a protective and guiding internal ring (12) cooperating with the housing.

  • Patent number: 4777867
Abstract: A device for discontinuing and automatically restoring the operational function of a spring brake actuator. The device includes a piston with a piston rod and a spring for actuating the piston and piston rod in a working direction for brake application at falling brake fluid pressure on the piston. A slitted, resilient locking ring is arranged in grooves facing each other in the piston rod and a piston rod sleeve coaxial therewith. The locking ring can either be constrained to rest in both of the grooves, so that the piston rod and piston rod sleeve are locked together, or be free to be forced completely into one of the grooves, which is at least as deep as the thickness of the ring, so that the piston rod and piston rod sleeve are free to move independently of each other.

  • Patent number: 4630714
Abstract: A rail vehicle block brake actuator (1) shall be fixedly mounted, but its brake block holder (4) shall brakingly engage an axially movable wheel (25). For this purpose the brake block holder is laterally movably suspended relative to the brake actuator by means of pivotable hangers (5) each consisting of a stack of leaf springs. These leaf springs (5) are preferably prestressed in a direction for compensating for the bias of the taper of the wheel tread, which it is intended to engage, but are held in a straight condition by means of a flat bar (9).

  • Patent number: 4615228
Abstract: A device for mechanically transforming a torque into an axial force.A long, cylindrical rubber body (16) is enclosed within a tightly wound coil spring (15) and on its short sides by an axially fixed, torque-receiving end wall (12) and an axially movable, force-transmitting cover (17) respectively. One of the ends of the spring accompanies the end wall as it rotates, in so doing causing the diameters of the spring and the rubber body to reduce and the length of the body to increase.

  • Patent number: 4585097
Abstract: A slack adjuster for a rail vehicle brake system, comprising a brake force receiving adjuster tube (1, 1A), a spindle (4; 4A) axially movable therein, and two nuts, an adjuster nut (5; 5A) and a leader nut (6; 6A), which are in non-self-locking thread engagement with the spindle and are held resiliently in clutch engagement with a clutch ring (7; 7A) and a control sleeve (16; 16A) respectively, the latter being axially movable in the tube a distance (A) corresponding to the desired slack. In order to transform this so called stroke-sensing adjuster into the so called clearance-sensing type being independent of the elasticity part of the application stroke the adjuster nut (5; 5A) and the clutch ring (7; 7A) in coaction are arranged to submit a force to the leader nut (6; 6A) for locking the latter against rotation under deformation of a resilient element (13; 30; 34; 38; 5A) at the occurrence of a counter-force on the spindle (4; 4A) during the brake application.

  • Patent number: 4454932
Abstract: Suspension for a rail vehicle disc brake unit (1) comprises a suspension console (11) to be attached to a vehicle bogie or underframe, a cradle (13) movably attached to the console, and suspension links (17, 18) pivotally connecting the brake pad holders (6) to the cradle. A further supporting connection (19-21) is provided between the console and the brake unit. In order to obtain the desired mobility for the brake disc during braking there is between the console (11) and the cradle (13) a joint (14), which is stiff in the brake force transmission direction but comparatively resilient in other directions. The supporting connection (19-21) has basically the same properties.

  • Patent number: 4441591
Abstract: A rail vehicle slack adjuster is provided with a barrel detented against rotation under normal working conditions. However, rotation of the barrel effects adjustment of the length of the adjuster. Thus, by means of a flexible clip ring splined to the barrel and detenting into a notch on the non-rotatable pull rod, manual force permits the clip ring to be distorted out of the notch for rotation of the barrel to accomplish manual adjustment when replacing brake blocks, or the like.

  • Patent number: 4418801
Abstract: A rail vehicle slack adjuster of the axial type has a barrel (4), a spindle (2), and an adjuster nut (29).In order to prevent the spindle (2) from leaving its thread engagement with the adjuster nut (29) the spindle is provided with a stop ring (64) so located that it will contact a barrel part (57) and, via the barrel and a barrel spring (53), bring about a closing of a main clutch (49, 50) between a pull means (6, 48) and the adjuster nut.
