    Abstract: The present invention relates to a prestretched polyethylene film having a longitudinal stretch ratio of from about 1:2 to about 1:4 and having a longitudinal elongation capability of at least 170%, said elongation capability comprising an elastic component. The invention also relates to a method for producing said film and to a method of wrapping compressed bulk material such as a round bale using said film, the method comprising further stretching the prestretched film and applying the film around the compressed bulk material in direct contact therewith. The film according to the invention may be used as a net replacement film and allows increasing the efficiency and the economics in the baling process by allowing faster baling, use of a lesser amount of wrapping film and/or improved protection of the product.

The sheet wrapping device and the controller are adapted to be operable independently of a rate of feeding bulk material into the forming chamber. The method includes feeding material to a wrapping position while forming the material, wrapping a sheet around the material such that the sheet at least partly overlaps a previously wrapped portion of the sheet, and transferring the wrapped material from the wrapping position to a storage ready position. The feeding of the material to a wrapping position and wrapping a sheet around the material are separately operable.

Each winding turn that is jointlessly connected to first winding turn and has the same winding direction as the first turn is formed by making this winding turn include a cable section corresponding to a turn on the reel that has been lifted off the reel by lateral movement over a gable of the reel. To form each winding turn that is jointlessly connected to the first winding turn and has a second winding direction opposite the winding direction of the first turn, the cable portion forming this winding turn is made to include a section corresponding to a turn on the reel that has been lifted off the reel by lateral movement over the other gable.
