  • Patent number: 6814055
Abstract: A circuit to achieve a large ignition advance, limitation of speed of revolutions and to prevent backfiring and reverse direction running in a magnetic ignition system that comprises a flywheel with two poles and a two-legged iron core. An ignition transformer (L3/L4), a charging coil (L1) and a triggering coil (L2) that may be connected in antiphase to the charging coil are arranged on the first leg in the direction of rotation of the flywheel. A time-constant circuit (an RC net) and a control switch (T2) are arranged between the charging coil and a main switch (T1) that open/block triggering pulses such that charging takes place one revolution later than triggering. Limitation of the speed of revolutions is achieved with a time constant that can be determined.

  • Patent number: 6766787
Abstract: A circuit to achieve a large ignition advance, limitation of speed of revolutions and to prevent backfiring and reverse direction running in a magnetic ignition system comprises a flywheel with two poles and a three-legged iron core. An ignition transformer (L3/L4), a triggering coil (L2) and a charging coil (L1) are arranged on the legs of the core. The triggering coil is arranged either on the first or second leg in the direction of rotation of the flywheel, and the charging coil on the final leg. A time-constant circuit (an RC net) and a control switch (T2) are arranged between the charging coil and a main switch (T1) that opens/blocks triggering pulses whereby limitation in the speed of revolutions is achieved by means of adjustment of the time-constant circuit.

  • Patent number: 6029640
Abstract: A method for generation of a low test voltage is used for the purpose of detecting an ionization current in the spark gap of an internal combustion engine. The voltage is generated by a controllable ignition magneto (5) arranged in order to charge (2) an ignition capacitor (4). The voltage is applied (3) to the primary side of the ignition device after generation of a spark and after the decay of the spark, after which the ionization current is detected (11) on the secondary side of the ignition device.

  • Patent number: 6018986
Abstract: A method of carrying out ionic current measurement in an internal combustion engine, using a lean fuel mixture which requires an increased burning duration, comprises the steps of (a) generating an ignition spark, (b) detecting initiation of combustion of the lean fuel mixture by the ignition spark, (c) cutting off the ignition spark within 20 microseconds after the initiation of combustion and (d) thereafter performing the ionic current measurement. The combustion start can be detected by measuring the change in the burning potential and/or the burning current, detected at the low-tension side of the secondary coil of the ignition system, using leak capacitances of the ignition coil, or by using a separate winding of the ignition coil. The ignition spark is cut off by a controllable ignition magneto.

  • Patent number: 4747206
Abstract: A method of winding coils in one and the same wire size, so that they can be tailored to prevailing circuit requirements, includes, for example, when a lower resistance is required, a partial winding is first wound in one direction from a first connection to a second connection, the wire then being wound from the second connection in the opposite direction for joining to the first connection.

  • Patent number: 4565179
Abstract: Apparatus in magneto ignition systems for providing time separated sequences for charging and triggering in cophased charging and triggering voltage sequences, including inhibition of the ignition sequence in such apparatus. The ignition system includes a triac as a control member, a rectifier being included in the control circuit of the triac, the rectifier having its polarity disposed such that time-separated charging and triggering intervals are obtained. Across the rectifier there is connected a short-circulating circuit or providing triggering control voltages to the triac, even during the charging interval, thus preventing charging, which results in inhibition of the ignition sequence.
