  • Publication number: 20050245888
Abstract: An aspiration collection cassette 10 includes a housing 12 for receiving aspiration fluids from a surgical site. An aspiration port 14 is attached to the housing 12 for connection to an aspiration tube 50 and for providing a passage way to an interior 22 of the housing 12. A vacuum port 16 is disposed in the housing 12 and communicates with the housing interior 22 for cooperation with a vacuum pump. A length of tubing 20 is connected to the housing 12 on each end, such that the tubing 20 will be placed between a peristaltic pump head and a backing plate.

  • Publication number: 20050069419
Abstract: A peristaltic pump 10 for use in ophthalmic surgery includes a housing 12, a pump head 14 having plurality of rollers 16, a backing plate 18 attached to the housing 12, and a length of surgical tubing 50. The rollers 16 and backing plate 18 cooperate to pinch the length of surgical tubing 50 to peristaltically pump fluids from a surgical site to a collection bag 64. At least one of the pump head 14 and the backing plate 18 is moveable, during operation of the pump 10, from a tubing pinched position to a tubing vent position. This movement allows the tubing 50 to be vented by removing the pinched closure of the tubing 50.

  • Publication number: 20050070859
Abstract: The fitment is an elongated connector providing a conduit for aspirant to flow from a pump cartridge to an interior of the collection bag. The connector has a first end configured for attachment to the pump cartridge and a second end for positioning within the interior of the collection bag. The second end also includes at least one notch formed in the connector. The notch acts to prevent the collection bag from sealing off the conduit during surgery so that a sufficient amount of air will remain within the bag to allow a surgeon to air vent an aspiration path during surgery.
