  • Patent number: 11462830
Abstract: A technique is described where the switch and/or tunable control circuit for use with an active multi-mode antenna is positioned remote from the antenna structure itself for integration into host communication systems. Electrical delay and impedance characteristics are compensated for in the design and configuration of transmission lines or parasitic elements as the active multi-mode antenna structure is positioned in optimal locations such that significant electrical delay is introduced between the RF front-end circuit and multi-mode antenna. This technique can be implemented in designs where it is convenient to locate switches in a front-end module (FEM) and the FEM is located in vicinity to the transceiver.

  • Publication number: 20220231418
Abstract: A reconfigurable antenna system is described which combines active and passive components used to impedance match, alter the frequency response, and change the radiation pattern of an antenna. Re-use of components such as switches and tunable capacitors make the circuit topologies more space and cost effective, while reducing complexity of the control signaling required. Antenna structures with single and multiple feed and/or ground connections are described and active circuit topologies are shown for these configurations. A processor and algorithm can reside with the antenna circuitry, or the algorithm to control antenna optimization can be implemented in a processor in the host device.

  • Patent number: 11296420
Abstract: A multiport RF switch assembly with integrated impedance tuning capability is described that provides a single RFIC solution to switch between transmit and receive paths in a communication system. Dynamic tuning is integrated into each switch sub-assembly to provide the capability to impedance match antennas or other components connected to the multiport switch. The tuning function at the switch can be used to shape the antenna response to provide better filtering at the switch/RF front-end (RFFE) interface to allow for reduced filtering requirements in the RFFE. Memory is designed into the multiport switch assembly, allowing for a look-up table or other data to reside with the switch and tuning circuit. The resident memory will result in easier integration of the tunable switch assembly into communication systems.
