    Abstract: The present invention relates to the use of organic salts of zinc in topical formulations. Such organic salts tend to be less water soluble and therefore less likely to result in systemic toxicity, even with chronic use. In preferred embodiments, the composition of the invention comprise zinc salicylate, which provides the antiinflammatory effect of salicylate, but wherein the zinc moiety counteracts toxic effects associated with salicylate.
