  • Patent number: 4960396
Abstract: A boat-mounted pedal-driven paddle system for maneuvering a lightweight fishing boat. When employed for movement, a paddle is vertically oriented with its blade parallel to the keel of the boat and removably mounted upon the transom by a manually adjustable C-clamp. A pair of cooperating foot pedals are permanently, pivotally mounted upon a crossbar which transverses the width of the boat and is connected between the boat sides. The foot pedals are operatively linked to the paddle system via a pair of flexible cables guided upon a multiplicity of cooperative pulleys and connected to the pedals via a pivotal cable guide donut. Paddle movement involves three basic motions. First, the paddle is rotatable a limited degree about its longitudinal axis, and the position to which it axially rotates determines blade operative pitch during propulsion.
