    Abstract: A process is described for the production of zirconium carboxylate comprising combining a carboxylate and a zirconium salt within a basic environment of a basic aqueous solution. The carboxylate is provided in an amount sufficient to give a ratio of carboxylate to zirconium equivalents in a range of from about 1.0:1.0 to 1.40:1.0 and the basic environment is provided by a basic salt in an amount sufficient to leave an excess of base after the combination of the zirconium salt and the carboxylate, whereupon the zirconium reacts in one step to form the zirconium carboxylate product.
