  • Patent number: 7472721
Abstract: A closure includes a hub having a bore in fluid communication with the port of a vessel. A door is removably positioned within the bore of the hub, and a locking ring is threaded with the hub thread for moving the door to a closed and circumferentially sealed position against the shoulder. At least one rotatable actuator element, such as a plurality of gears, engages the locking ring and is rotated to rotate the locking ring. A breaker bar or impact wrench could be used to rotatable drive the actuator elements.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 6, 2007
Date of Patent: January 6, 2009
Assignee: Robbins & Myers Energy Systems, L.P.
Inventors: Billy W. White, Lawrence F. Angelo, Michael J. Guidry, Jr.

  • Patent number: 5845909
Abstract: A stuffing box 10, 60 designed for sealing engagement with a rod member R includes a plurality of stacked packing rings 32, 110, 150, 210, and a gland member 42, 64 axially moveable relative to the stuffing box body 12, 62 for varying the compressive force on the packing rings. Each packing ring comprises an annular rubber carrier 34, 112, 152, 212 having tapered upper and lower surfaces, and an annular plastic dynamic seal 36, 114, 154, 214 for sealing engagement with the rod member. Gland member 42, 64 exerts an axially compressive force on the radially exterior portion of each angularly wedged packing ring and thereby generates a radial inwardly directed biasing force on each plastic dynamic seal through the rubber carrier for sealing engagement of the dynamic seal with the rod member.

  • Patent number: 5711533
Abstract: An oilfield stuffing box 10 employs mating flange plates 15, 16 with bolt holes appreciably larger in diameter than the bolts employed to hold the flange plates together, thereby permitting lateral displacement between the two flange plates. The lateral adjustment permits the tubular stuffing box section 13 carried centrally on the upper plate 15 to be centrally positioned about a polished rod 12 extending between the two flanges. The lower plate 15 is preferably integral with a well head section 14, and is also provided with the large diameter bolt holes to double the range of permitted lateral adjustment. The relative size of the bolts, bolt holes, polished rod diameter and well head diameter are selected for optimum lateral adjustment with a minimum practical hole-to-bolt size differential. A static seal 22 between the two mating flange plates provides a leak-proof seal at any of the different lateral positions between the two flanged sections 13, 14.

  • Patent number: 4467833
Abstract: A control valve and a multiple control system therefor for controlling a plurality of remotely positioned hydraulically actuated underwater devices. The control valve includes first and second equal size pilot pistons acted upon by first and second pilot ports, respectively, for moving the valve to either an open or closed position, and third and fourth unequal size pilot pistons acted upon by third and fourth pilot ports for moving the valve to either an open or closed position. The control valve may be operated in an electro-hydraulic control mode by the use of electrically actuated valves controlling the supply of fluid to the first and second ports. In addition, the control valve can be operated in a hydraulic mode by hydraulically controlling the supply of fluid to the third and fourth pilot ports.

  • Patent number: 4348780
Abstract: This invention relates to apparatus for elevating a mobile workover rig to an elevated operating position proximate wellhead. It includes a portable platform arranged for positioning proximate the wellhead with the platform having a fixed generally horizontal upper surface portion for receiving and supporting the wheels of the rig thereon. It also includes ram means comprising two longitudinally aligned portions connected to the platform for forming an inclined ramp extending from the upper surface of the platform to the ground for moving the rig thereonto. It also includes means connected to the ramp means for raising at least one of the portions of the rig to an elevated generally horizontal position substantially the same height as the upper surface of the platform while wheels of the rig are supported thereon to thereby elevate and support the rig in the elevated operating position.
