    Abstract: A vent system for venting hot gas and effluents from a cooking appliance. The vent system includes a first direct vent structure having an inlet for receiving hot gas and effluents and an outlet communicating with atmosphere. The first direct vent structure defines a first flow path. At least one effluent-removal device is positioned in the first flow path for removing effluents from the hot gas. An atmospheric flue communicates with the outlet of the first direct vent structure for venting hot gas to atmosphere after it has passed through the effluent-removal device. A damper system and integrated control system are also disclosed.

    Abstract: A needle guard and a method to prevent needle stick injuries are disclosed, for use with a hypodermic syringe or other instrument with a sharp point. The needle guard, comprises a protective sleeve with a fitting, that may be used with or added to a conventional syringe and needle assembly. The interior of the fitting contains a deformable engagement means adapted to permanently engage the fitting on the syringe barrel. Prior to and during use of the needle, the sleeve remains in a retracted position covering the barrel of the syringe. After the needle has been used, the sleeve is pushed forward into its locked extended position, so that the end of the sleeve extends beyond the tip of the needle. The tip of the needle is thereby shielded, preventing accidental sticks.

    Abstract: An improved flexible endoscope of the type which includes a hollow elongate flexible tube having a distal end which is inserted into a body cavity and a proximal end which is external the body. A sensor system extends through the flexible tube from the proximal end to the distal end. The sensor system is capable of transmitting diagnostic information from the distal end to a sensor system at the proximal end. Means for controlling the flexure of each tube comprises at least one longitudinal expandible conduit positioned radially with respect to the center line axis of the segment. In a preferred embodiment a plurality of inflatable and expandible conduits are provided and pressure means is also provided to inflate the conduits to control rigidity or to expand the conduits longitudinally and sequentially in order to vary the curvature of the tube.
