Leah NATION has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Publication number: 20240088369
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of strain tolerant particles, methods of manufacturing such structures, and feedstock to form said structures. In some embodiments, the structures can include alternating regions of an energy storage structure and a reinforcing structure. Advantageously, when the strain tolerant particles are used within an anode of a lithium ion battery, the reinforcing structure may provide mechanical stability to the particles and thus increase cycle life.
    Type: Application
    Filed: November 14, 2023
    Publication date: March 14, 2024
Inventors: Richard K. Holman, Leah Nation

  • Publication number: 20220149359
Abstract: Iron electrode materials, iron electrodes, and methods for fabricating said iron electrode materials and iron electrodes via elevated temperature thermomechanical processing of porous particulate iron materials are described. For example, as part of iron electrode manufacture, a particulate iron material into an apparatus may be provided. In addition, pressure and/or heat may be applied to the particulate iron material in the apparatus for a time period to form an electrode having therein conductive connections between particles of the particulate iron material.

  • Publication number: 20210075000
Abstract: Disclosed herein are embodiments of strain tolerant particle structures, methods of manufacturing such structures, and precursors to form said structures. In some embodiments, the structures can be formed of a network of nano-scale walls. The structures can be incorporated into powders, which can then be used for any number of applications, such as microwave plasma processing.

  • Publication number: 20190252671
Abstract: A lithium ion battery has a positive electrode or cathode having a silicon modified mixed metal oxide including a compound having empirical formula Li[LiyMna-xSixMIIIbMIIc]O2??(I) wherein y=0.01-0.33; x=0.001-0.15; a, b, and c are each greater than zero; MIII is a trivalent metal or a combination of metals with an average valence of +3; MII is a divalent metal or a combination of metals with an average valence of +2; and y+4a+3b+2c is equal to 3 or about 3. Such a silicon modified mixed metal oxide may be exemplified by formula: Li [Li0.2 Mn0.49 Si0.05 Ni0.13 Co0.13]O2.
